Research on women candidates confirms that voters are less likely to vote for a woman if they don’t like her; by comparison, voters don’t need to like men to elect them.

Why the double standards?

What I experienced during my 2014 run for office wasn’t entirely unfamiliar to me. The year before, I had run for president of the Young Democrats of America (YDA), a national political party office role, against a popular opponent. The opponent was a Black man, so race wasn’t a factor in the el...

“There is an epidemic of missing and murdered Black women in America and Nebraska is not immune,” said Joy Kathurima, legal and policy counsel at I Be Black Girl.

“Bring Her Home Nebraska is not only about raising awareness, but identifying root solutions so beloved members of our community are found safely and returned home.”

I Be Black Girl is launching a new campaign to help find missing Black women and children in Nebraska.

Where would SHE Wins! be without the love, support and partnership of our SHEro Moms? ♥️

Today we want to take a minute to celebrate and thank all the mothers who make our work possible.

For our young moms and moms-to-be, we are praying for and thinking of you today as well. 💕

Happy Mother’s Day!

Her superpower? Her hair.
I know thats right!

Kameirah Johnson, a senior at Lakeside School in Seattle, is one of five finalist in the Doodle for Google Contest.

Her work was chosen out of tens of thousands of submissions received from students across the country.

Google asked K-12 students to create a drawing that depicts their superpower. Hers was her “ magical” hair.

Her digital artwork is of three Black girls lying in a field surrounded by golden bursts of fireflies. Their braided hair spells “Google.”

What makes this artwork even more special is that the girls represent her, her mother and her sister.

Kameirah described our hair as something that carries culture, history, and strength.

And I agree.

The winner will receive $55,000 in scholarships, their art on Google, and their school will also receive $50,000 to go toward buying new technology.

Kameirah is very ambitious.
She wants to own her own gallery, be an artist in residence at museums and mentor young artists of color. And she is well on her way!

Let’s help our girl Kameirah win!

You know what to do!

Men killing Black women is one of the single most urgent issues menacing Black America today. Between 2011 and 2024, the number of Black women killed by men with a firearm increased by nearly 30 percent, according to the Violence Policy Center.

Rising cases of Black women fatally shot by men they loved highlight a deadly femicide crisis. Black women face disproportionate violence, mostly from intimate partners. Awareness and action are critical to end this tragic epidemic.

As of early 2026, violence against women and girls is recognized as a top global health crisis, with intimate partner violence (IPV) and sexual violence ranking among the leading causes of premature death and disability for females aged 15-49.

Nearly 1 in 3 women worldwide have experienced such violence, leading to severe health risks including injuries, HIV, depression, and long-term, debilitating physical conditions.

From Shreveport to Coral Springs, this is a public health crisis for Black women, and it's going to take a communal effort to help make it stop.
