Drew Giddings is closing out the Rutgers Institute for Ethical Leadership (IEL)'s annual Nonprofit Capacity Building Series. Find out how to get a free board training for your next retreat by clicking the link below!

We will be providing 5 NJ nonprofit organizations the unique opportunity to enhance their Board Retreat with a tailored in-person or online training (based on location and availability) delivered to your Board of Trustees by a talented consultant and sector thought leader with 25+ years of experience, at no cost to your organization.

The application is short and should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

A Board Retreat is a chance for organization leadership to take time for recommitting to the organization, growing as leaders through learning and reflection, and ultimately, strengthen nonprofits. However, many organizations lack the funds to support high-quality professional development opportunit...

Announcement from IEL Acting Executive Director, Victoria Marie Fernandez, MPA:

I am writing today to share the bittersweet news that I am leaving Rutgers Institute for Ethical Leadership (IEL) after 7 years with the organization. I will announce my new role in the coming weeks, but for now I want to take a moment to focus on my time with IEL. I came on board IEL in 2015 under the leadership of Judy Zoppi (then Young), James Abruzzo, and Alex Plinio, with the promise of a one-year grant funded position. The 6 years that followed were a gift that brought me a wealth of experiences, including changes in my role from Program Manager to Acting Executive Director, and most importantly, an abundance of relationships with incredible leaders from the Greater Newark area and beyond.

I will stay connected to my work with the Nonprofit Professionals of Color Collective and want to assure our members that the program will continue with a succession plan in place and no disruption to services; more information will be shared with members in the coming weeks.

Our IEL Director, Joanne Ciulla, will continue working on reframing how the IEL fills its mission when she returns from her sabbatical in the fall of 2023.

When I look back on my work at IEL, I am most proud of the strides I made towards creating a more accessible organization with a greater lens on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a space where I hope leaders have felt welcomed, appreciated, and supported. More than anything, it has been an honor, truly, to be a part of this community that is Newark, public service, and so much more.

I will take with me the lessons taught and modeled on leadership, excellence, community, and joy, and carry the leaders lost from our circle in my heart. I look forward to staying connected in the future.

In the words of the late “Coach” Diane Dean, this is not goodbye but instead to be continued.

In service,
Vicki

Signal Boosting a Rutgers student: My name is Andrew, and I am a candidate for my Master of Public Administration at the Rutgers-Newark School of Public Affairs and Administration.

I am reaching out because I am currently doing research around the future of work when it comes to improving mental health outcomes for all. Some ideas I'm looking to test include:
*A 32-hour, 4-day work week standard with no reduction in pay or benefits;
*The normalization and de-stigmatization of mental health days, and;
*Greater flexibility around remote work, where possible.

As we think about our relationship with work in a post-pandemic society, it's important to think of strategies and solutions that are beneficial to all, including our most vulnerable and historically marginalized communities.

That said, I am currently conducting a brief and anonymous survey that is accepting responses until August 31st. (There is also a raffle with prizes for those who participate!) I welcome you to share your experiences at: tinyurl.com/TheFutureOfWork2022

I am also doing brief interviews around this topic if you are interested in speaking about the future of work! If you have any questions, or would like additional information, please email me at [email protected].
