🚨 ICE is reopening Delaney Hall in Newark—a 1,000-bed facility, six times larger than Elizabeth Detention Center and the first to open under the Trump administration. NJ must lead by protecting immigrant families, pushing for the Immigrant Trust Act, and increasing deportation defense funding. The stakes are high, and we must act now. Join us this Tuesday, March 11, at noon at Delaney Hall in Newark.

Donald Campbell, executive director for the Atlantic Center For Independent Living, who lives with cerebral palsy, explains the importance of NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid to people like him in this video. Nearly 2 million New Jerseyans depend on Medicaid not just for health insurance, but as a lifeline to critical services. These include 1 in 3 people living with disabilities, 1 in 3 of our children, and 4 in 7 of seniors in nursing homes. Donald and others like him shouldn't lose Medicaid services so the Trump administration can give the very wealthy more tax cuts. Tell your legislator: NO CUTS TO MEDICAID!

Today, NJCA joined forces with the New Jersey Protect Medicaid Coalition at the State House for the “Protect Medicaid Rally”! Together, we’re fighting against proposed cuts to Medicaid that threaten 1.8 million New Jerseyans. Speakers emphasized that Medicaid isn’t just health insurance—it's a lifeline for families, children, seniors, and people with disabilities. With up to $1.5 TRILLION in potential cuts looming over essential services like healthcare, SNAP, TANF & education, we must raise our voices -- whether it directly impacts us or not!

At the rally, Laura Waddell from NJ Citizen Action said, “We will not stand by while hospitals like our state’s only public hospital, University Hospital, face $149 million in federal funding cuts. We will not stand by while NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid’s federal funding is slashed by $5.2 billion.”

A major setback for fair housing in NJ! Due to funding cuts from the Trump Administration and the Elon Musk-led DOGE, NJCA is forced to terminate its Fair Housing Program. This program fought against housing discrimination and supported marginalized communities. Now, unethical practices can thrive unchecked, leaving vulnerable renters to face greater risks as predatory landlords regain power. Here is a news report on this devastating setback for fair housing advocacy in our state:

New Jersey Citizen Action is terminating a program that supports people who have faced housing discrimination.

Earlier today, NJCA's Bonita Holmes, Leila Amirhamzeh, and Beverly Brown Ruggia stood with AFT New Jersey, HPAE - Health Professionals & Allied Employees, Newark NAACP, and Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka to protest and fight the federal cuts to Education Department programs that are vital to schools everywhere, but especially in communities where special needs are critical.

These cuts threaten essential resources for students, teachers, and families, undermining the quality of education and support services they rely on. We must remain committed to advocating for equitable funding and ensuring that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has access to a quality education.
