Maroon Theatre Project is excited to announce the launch of the Lorraine Hansberry Youth Playwriting Fellowship, a groundbreaking initiative created specifically for Newark's youth. This unique program is designed to empower high school students, providing them with a platform to explore sociopolitical issues, collaborate with their peers, and write original plays that delve into topics they are most passionate about. Through the art of theatre, this fellowship aims to equip youth with the tools and skills necessary to address social justice issues, fostering leadership, problem-solving abilities, and an environment that values creativity, self-expression, and artistic development.
Fellows Will:
-Receive a $750 stipend disbursed throughout the fellowship.
-Gain a deep understanding of social justice issues and the power of theatre in addressing them.
-Develop artistic and creative writing skills.
-Foster collaboration, teamwork and build community with their peers.
-Receive mentorship and guidance from experienced theatre professionals.
-Showcase original play in a special staged reading series in Spring 2024.
