We train changemakers, build income-generating skills, and spark global learning through tech, storytelling, and community. Unemployment and poverty are the biggest challenges faced in Kenya. These societal issues disproportionately impact orphans and vulnerable children. Our mission is to promote education, eradicate juvenile homelessness, and provide food, clothing, and medical care.

✨ Spotlight ✨

This next changemaker has been a mentor in my life since 2003.

She taught me how to use Microsoft Word, helped me create my very first resume, and guided me into my first bookkeeping role at Bethel AME in Wilmington. Those early moments shaped my path in ways I could never have imagined.

Now, 23 years later, it has truly come full circle. I have picked up that same baton — empowering women and youth through collaboration with Microsoft and creating opportunities that transform lives.

Even more, we are building bridges between 🇺🇸 and Kenya — expanding impact, sharing knowledge, and lifting the next generation together.

✨ Volunteer | Changemaker | Prayer Warrior ✨

This week, I am honored to highlight someone who truly embodies all three — a volunteer, a changemaker, and a prayer warrior.

I met Pattie in 2003. Not only did she teach Bible lessons to my children when they were just 3 and 9 years old, but she has faithfully continued to pray for every Upendo project over the years. Her love, consistency, and quiet strength have been a blessing beyond words.

As we step into Year 6 of Upendo, I am reminded that this journey has been carried by people like Pattie — those who show up, who believe, and who cover the work in prayer.

During my recent visit to Delaware, I had the joy of reconnecting with her — sharing updates on our latest milestone, the construction of our school, and spending time together in prayer. She warmly treated me to a beautiful English tea, filled with love and encouragement.

💛 She is truly chosen, deeply loved, and a gift to this mission.

As we continue to grow, we are calling on more volunteers and changemakers to join us — especially:

Today, she is donating her overgrown clothes to be sent to our orphans in Kenya — a small act with a powerful message.
