Meeting Minutes – Annual 2025
The annual meeting of the Van Zile Lake Association was held on Saturday, May 24, 2025
at the public beach on Van Zile Lake. The meeting was called to order by Mike Balistreri at 10:14 a.m.
Old Business: Discussion from last year regarding signage at the boat launch. The DNR has replaced their signage.
Finances: Vice-President/Treasurer Mike Balistreri gave update on revenue and expenses for the past year.
Fundraisers: Annual fundraiser Duck Derby will take place on Saturday August 30, 2025 on Van Zile Beach. Tickets are $10 each. Members were asked to purchase and help sell the tickets again this year. Cash prizes based on how many tickets are sold. This information was inadvertently missed on the tickets this year. This is our main source of revenue for our lake association, we ask that all participate if able. If all tickets are sold, this brings in $1500 for our lake association. The other $1500 is paid out in cash prize.
Poker Run- Last years poker run was a success bringing in $465. Mike Balistreri volunteered to spearhead this fundraiser. Will be held in the month of August again this year. Information will be posted on Van Zile Lake Association page.
A significant donation was received from Popple River Pub, make sure to thank them when you see them!
FCAL Membership: As voted last year during our annual meeting, we have joined the Forest County Association of Lakes Inc. as of 2025. You can check out their website for up-to-date news, lake events, and resources. Go to www.fcal-wis.org
Plant Management Plan: Luann Doll gave an update on our plant management plan. Our plan submitted last summer has been approved by the DNR and will be valid for a couple years. The DNR did make several suggestions that we will need to incorporate in our future plan. Discussion was held on monitoring boats at the launch for aquatic plants.
Plant Harvesting: Luann Doll updated on the votes received by paid members to proceed or not proceed with harvesting this year. We will be proceeding with harvesting again based on the votes. Aquatic Plant Management is scheduled for Thursday June 26, 2025.
Our permit has been approved by the DNR for harvesting Watershield again this year. Anyone wishing for a copy of the permit application, please let Luann Doll know. The permit application needed to include a map of the areas to be cut, therefore only paid members prior to our meeting will have navigational lanes cut in front of their property. If a paid member does not want a navigational lane cut in front of their property, please let Luann Doll know. The DNR has approved a 30 ft wide by 50-60 ft long (into the lake) lanes for most areas. The beach area and boat launch is also on the map for cutting.
Aquatic Plant Management out of Minocqua will be the company harvesting the plants. Cost is $2500 per day (8 hrs) plus an additional $1,000 mobilization fee. The plants will be disposed of at Doll’s 9499 Townline Road.
Current members are to mark their pier if they want the navigational lane. Pink ribbon was handed out at the meeting to those present. Members not present at the meeting can get this ribbon from Luann Doll, or you may purchase your own.
Discussion was held regarding researching the purchase of a harvester for future. Kevin Lasee and Tim Nordstrom volunteered to research harvesters for sale that might be appropriate for our lake. Everyone is welcome to help with this research.
