“What Black feminism, what reproductive justice, what human rights, what all these different frameworks allow us to do is to force ourselves deeper into our collective power… We have to make the dismantling of patriarchy and misogynoir as irresistible as our opposition is making these [other things like] the manosphere.”

- Monica Simpson

Congratulations to the incredible on winning Best Costume Design at the 79th Tony Awards for her work on the musical Cats: The Jellicle Ball

Not only is Qween an extraordinary costume designer, but she is also a gifted actress who portrayed Kayla Moore in AAPF’s live reading of Say Her Name: The Lives That Should Have Been. Her performance was not only deeply moving but also profoundly inspiring, leaving a lasting impact on all of us at AAPF.

We are so proud to celebrate this well-deserved achievement and look forward to all that’s ahead for you.

Today would have been Breonna Taylor’s 33rd birthday. Every year, we remember that she should still be with us. We honor her memory, uplift her family, and continue to say her name with dignity, care, and love.

AAPF will continue to and fight for those whose stories have too often been overlooked, erased, or left out of conversations about racial justice and police violence. We remain committed to honoring Breonna Taylor’s legacy by uplifting the experiences of Black women and girls, supporting the families who carry these losses every day, and working toward a future where every life is valued and protected.

“Telling stories is not just important because they mark our existence and reveal that our lives matter. Telling stories is also crucial because they help develop theories from which we can stage interventions. So when our stories are suppressed, it’s not just that they’re suppressing us and our ideas, they’re suppressing the very possibility of a  democratic society.”

When the Supreme Court ruled to overturn the Voting Rights Act, the justices in the majority acted as if the outcome of eliminating protections for Black voters was “neutral.” But we know they use “neutrality” and “colorblindness” as cover to disenfranchise and silence Black voters. This has potentially catastrophic consequences for the South and we must continue to shine a light on actions that subvert the democratic process. Any voter whose power is challenged is a challenge to democracy itself.

Tuesday brought wins against the Trump Administration redistricting efforts in the South following the SCOTUS ruling on Louisiana v.

Despite these victories, the fight isn’t over. The Supreme Court’s recent decision weakened key protections under the Voting Rights Act, opening the door for more redistricting battles ahead of the 2026 midterms and creating the kind of uncertainty and chaos designed to suppress voters of color.

We must continue to remain vigilant as well as reminding our friends and neighbors of their right to vote.

“What this court is effectively saying is that the very practice of ensuring that marginalized communities have the ability to elect someone of their choice is itself discriminatory when race is taken into account to remedy racial marginalization.”
