SoHarlem got to check out and is loving the Flower Power fashion exhibit “Art of the Era” in their Museum Building Gallery.

Step back in time with an extraordinary display of paintings, photographs, screenprints, and collages by artists from the 1960s and ‘70s that depict flowers as symbols of peace and love. See Andy Warhol’s Flowers (1964) on view alongside the image used as source material for the work—a photograph taken by nature photographer and environmental activist Patricia Caulfield—plus other highlights including artworks by Joe Brainard, Milton Glaser, Carlos Irizarry, Corita Kent, and many others.

Donna Drew, one of SoHarlem’s first creative entrepreneurs, joined the SoHarlem Collective after a varied career with The County of Essex, NJ, most notably as Director of Cultural and Historic Affairs. After an early retirement, Donna chose to revitalize and formalize her instructional and retail “art making” practice, creating Triangle Designs LLC () , which focuses on sustainable design concepts and practices (up-cycling) and the reduction of landfill waste. Her work is the basis for a micro-enterprise offering everything from wearable art to home décor, as she reclaims and transforms objects, giving them a new life. Donna’s association with SoHarlem continues as a Creative Entrepreneur.

An artist and illustrator, Donna holds a BFA from Boston University’s School of Fine Art and has amassed a vibrant history of teaching fine art and crafts to a diverse group of students, including the disabled. Donna developed “Creativity Blooms”, offering sustainable design classes and workshops (printmaking, mixed media, clothing reconstruction, jewelry and collage) and the opportunity for participants to creatively and organically grow and bloom.

Honoring the Earth, One Stitch at a Time

SoHarlem’s recently partnered with Gotham Foundry on BioFabrication Workshop

We celebrated the season of renewal with an all-day Biofabrication Workshop, made possible by our partners at Gotham Foundry. Together, we’re putting the care of our planet at the center of everything we craft.
The workshop included a lecture on fashion’s environmental impact and the potential of biofabrication; a hands-on session where participants cultivated bacterial cellulos; how to process material into a leather-like substance and exploring techniques like screen printing; and connecting these new skills to industry standards. Collective was also able to take home their own biofabrication kits. To learn more about Gotham Foundry visit
