More than 300 students move through Winston-Salem Symphony's P.L.A.Y. Music program each year, learning strings from their first lesson through five levels of ensemble training.
A WolfBrown study found that P.L.A.Y. students showed gains in reading and math achievement alongside stronger social-emotional skills, benefits that will stay with students for life.
Winston-Salem Symphony's "gateway" approach to music education is one of many featured in the League's new report on education and community engagement: https://americanorchestras.org/orchestras-building-community-through-education-and-engagement/
