This August, our friends at are hosting a 10-day retreat in rural Japan exploring food, ecology, craft, and communal living through the landscapes of Takigahara.
Bessō Takigahara brings together farmers, cooks, artists, writers, an ama diver, and a Buddhist priestess for an immersive program rooted in the satoumi-satoyama ecosystems of Ishikawa Prefecture. Participants will forage edible plants, ferment seasonings, harvest seaweed, make paper from wild gampi, carve bamboo chopsticks, share meals with villagers, and build a collective feast from the surrounding landscape.
It’s a thoughtful, deeply place-based program for people interested in food systems, cultural exchange, ecological thinking, and slower ways of learning.

In a new class with Nitzan Hermon, we’ll explore how AI can function as a thinking aid rather than just a productivity tool. Instead of optimizing for faster outputs, the session focuses on using computational thinking to clarify intention, surface hidden assumptions, and hold better questions open for longer.
Designed for anyone already using AI in work or creative practice — no technical background required — this 90-minute session introduces practical frameworks, prompts, and patterns for engaging with AI more intentionally.
Come for this first session, and, if your interest is piqued, take $100 off the full 3-month course.

Join us for an interactive seminar with Lenox Institute writer and philosopher Emma Stamm exploring how AI is reshaping language, interpretation, and human connection. Through thought experiments, discussion, and examples drawn from philosophy, cognitive science, and contemporary AI culture, the evening asks what happens when generated language starts to feel indistinguishable from the “real thing.” Register at the link in bio.

How does a headline shape what you believe before you even read the article? In Media Literacy: Spotting Narrative Manipulation, Sydney Ziems of Shadowbanned Magazine leads a hands-on workshop unpacking how media framing works — from propaganda and PR to algorithmic feeds and viral posts.
Together, participants will compare coverage, analyze emotional cues and omissions, and rewrite narratives themselves to understand how language shapes perception in real time. For anyone interested in media, politics, design, communication, or simply becoming a sharper reader of the world around them.

We use language to mean things. AI uses language to calculate things.

In the second AI Literacy Salon, Nitzan Hermon leads a conversation on the gap between symbolic human meaning and statistical machine fluency. As AI becomes part of how we write, summarize, decide, and communicate, what do we need to understand in order to stay intentional?

Featuring Johnny Dance, Kristy Zadrozny, and Stephen P. Williams, this salon invites curiosity over conclusions — and asks what new literacies we need for thinking clearly with machines.

Prompt, Code, Embed is a hands-on workshop with creative technologist Laure Michelon exploring how AI can function as a material for making, not just a shortcut. Using tools like p5.js, Three.js, and Fuser’s node-based editor, you’ll build interactive sketches, animations, and embeddable visuals. No coding experience required. Register at the link in bio!
