This August, our friends at are hosting a 10-day retreat in rural Japan exploring food, ecology, craft, and communal living through the landscapes of Takigahara.
Bessō Takigahara brings together farmers, cooks, artists, writers, an ama diver, and a Buddhist priestess for an immersive program rooted in the satoumi-satoyama ecosystems of Ishikawa Prefecture. Participants will forage edible plants, ferment seasonings, harvest seaweed, make paper from wild gampi, carve bamboo chopsticks, share meals with villagers, and build a collective feast from the surrounding landscape.
It’s a thoughtful, deeply place-based program for people interested in food systems, cultural exchange, ecological thinking, and slower ways of learning.
