FACES (Finding A Cure For Epilepsy and Seizures) Most importantly, we are committed to finding a cure.

FACES (Finding A Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures) is affiliated with NYU Langone Medical Center and The NYU Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. FACES began when a group of parents, adult patients, and doctors came together in 1994 to advance research, clinical care, and education, and to tackle the social and behavioral problems that complicate epilepsy. FACES seeks to improve the quality of life for all people affected by epilepsy through research, education and awareness, and community-building events.

On Sunday, November 1, TeamFACES will race in the 2026 TCS NYC Marathon and look to complete 26.2 miles and finish the race in style! In the next few weeks, we will be introducing some members of this year’s TeamFACES marathon team and sharing some of their stories. Please consider supporting our TeamFACES runners as they look to reach their fundraising goals. All proceeds will benefit FACES programs, research, and initiatives at the NYU Langone Comprehensive Epilepsy Center.

In advance of the 2026 TCS NYC Marathon – one of our dedicated TeamFACES runner, Lisa Jacobson, has decided to lace up for the marathon and raise funds to support the mission of FACES (Finding A Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures) in a unique way.

With a contribution of at least $300 to her fundraiser, Lisa will paint your pet’s portrait (while supplies last)! The painting will be around 10”x10” oil or acrylic. Upon completion, it can be picked up in New York City or you can pay for shipping.

The FACES family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Luis Valero, former FACES Executive Director and FACES Gala 2024 honoree. Luis was a cornerstone of the FACES community and his charisma, passion, and compassion for our mission were truly unmatched.

After retiring in 2022, Luis returned to FACES in a part-time consulting role to help mentor the incoming team. Thanks to his guidance and support, FACES was able to navigate this transition seamlessly and continue its work without interruption.

Luis dedicated so much of his life to supporting the epilepsy community and helping grow FACES into the organization it is today. His warmth, leadership, and unwavering commitment touched countless patients, families, supporters, and friends. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed, valued, and inspired, and his impact on our community will never be forgotten.

We extend our deepest condolences to Luis’s family, loved ones, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be profoundly missed, and his legacy will continue to inspire the mission and work of FACES for years to come.
