As we continue recognizing Foster Care Awareness Month, City Living NY proudly hosted our annual “Surprise for Mom” event on May 9th, and it was truly a beautiful celebration of the incredible mothers in our community 💐💙

This special event was created to honor CLNY moms navigating parenthood, foster care transitions, education, employment, and healing, often without the support of their own maternal figures. Through games, activities, meals, raffles, self care moments, and quality time with their children, our moms were reminded that they are seen, appreciated, and deeply valued.

The room was filled with laughter, connection, joy, and community from beginning to end, and we are so grateful to everyone who donated, volunteered, supported, and helped make this event such a success.

Foster Care Awareness Month is about more than awareness. It is about showing up for young people and families with compassion, community, and meaningful support, and that is exactly what this event represented.

Thank you for helping us make this Mother’s Day unforgettable ✨

Today, we had another successful Home Goods Delivery! Tiffany has been working with CLNY for the past two years and through the support and advocacy of her CLNY social worker, she’s been able to find and furnish an apartment in one of Downtown Brooklyn’s newer high-rises. Huge congratulations to Tiffany for this major milestone! Next stop: our Alumni Program which she is already excited to join and sign up as a peer mentor helping other youth who have aged out of foster care. Go Tiffany, Go!

At City Living NY, we believe that young people who have experienced foster care deserve more than just stability and they deserve community, opportunity, and lifelong support.

Through mentorship, leadership opportunities, and peer connection, City Living creates spaces where alumni of foster care can build relationships, strengthen their voices, and support one another through life’s transitions.

Every gathering, every conversation, and every shared experience helps build a stronger network of resilience and belonging.

Because when young people leave foster care, they should never have to navigate adulthood alone.

Aging out should not mean being on your own.

When young people leave foster care without permanent connections, the risks are real—homelessness, unemployment, and isolation.

At City Living NY, we believe every young person deserves stability, opportunity, and community.

We’re working to change the statistics with one young person at a time.

An empty apartment can feel overwhelming.
Four blank walls. Echoes. Nowhere to sit. Nowhere to sleep.

City Living NY has delivered thousands of furniture pieces to young people leaving foster care, turning empty spaces into real homes filled with comfort, safety, and dignity.

One young person shared,
“I did not realize how much a bed and a table would mean. For the first time, I felt settled. I felt like I belonged.”

A home changes everything.

Independence doesn’t happen alone.

Our young people transitioning into housing need the essentials most of us take for granted—shower curtains, hygiene items, gift cards, and home basics.
