BCAGlobal advocates for and promotes diversity and cultural awareness in the culinary, food service and hospitality industries. It is concerned with leveling the playing field with qualified professionals as diverse as the people they serve. Thanks to its supporters, BCAGlobal has sustained the recognition as the organization that the culinary and hospitality industries turn to for qualified profe

ssionals of color with a passion for excellence. BCAGlobal creates the opportunity to advance the growth of diversity at both grassroots and institutional levels, which is why BCAGlobal strives to expand that not only empower career-minded individuals, but also expose industry leaders to the issues that those entering the field face. Our work is crucial to the balanced growth of the industries we serve. We aim to compliment students’ and young professionals’ formal training with the appropriate soft skills necessary to succeed in their future, creating socioeconomic empowerment for themselves, their families, and the communities that support them. Our methodology of bridging the gap between the career providers and career seekers is embedded with the themes of cultural immersion, food sustainability, and healthy living, which are presently not being fully addressed. Our goal and vision is to guide the future generation of culinary, food service, and hospitality leaders to embrace these ideologies.

We want to highlight this article from the American Psychological Association which features research and insights from The Center for Nutritional Psychology. The article, “We Are What We Eat: Researchers Are Furthering Our Understanding of Nutrition to Optimize Mental Health,” highlights growing evidence that what we eat influences not just our physical health, but also our mood, emotions, and overall well-being.

One of BCA Global’s core goals is to emphasize the importance of food as medicine within our Mindful Eating for the Beloved Community program framework. Studies mentioned in the article are exploring, and increasingly demonstrating, the effectiveness of dietary interventions as one tool for reducing symptoms of major depressive disorder.

While changes in diet alone cannot replace comprehensive mental health care, and must be supported by systemic change and accessible psychiatric care, the growing body of research underscores an important truth: nourishing the body is also a way of supporting the mind. Expanding access to nutrient-dense, whole foods and advancing research in nutritional psychology are key steps toward more holistic approaches to mental health and overall wellness.

My cultural foods are healthy 💚

Wise words and powerful perspective from Ashanti R. Baker, MS, RDN, LDN reminding us that access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food is one of the strongest ways to build healthier people and healthier communities.

Let’s push back against cuts that weaken food security and instead invest in a stronger, more just food system for all.
