Let the celebrations begin! The Williamsbridge Club is celebrating 50 years since Daisy George organized our Club.

🌟 Daisy S. George (1907–2004) was a lifelong “club woman” and trailblazer. A proud member of NANBPWC, the National Council of Negro Women and also founded Ncnwcoopcity Bethune, the National Council of Women, U.S.A., and the International Council of Women, she represented NANBPWC at the United Nations (1973–1985), leading projects to support African women and children. Locally, she founded and served on boards for Bronx childcare and enrichment centers, worked with the Schomburg Commission, and was active in her Harlem church. Her career included leadership in the NY Hotel Trades Council, Nepperhan Community Center, and NYC’s Department of Finance. Honored for decades of service, she left a lasting legacy of empowerment and community uplift. ✨

The Williamsbridge Club of NANBPWC, Inc. proudly shares the Ulster County Celebration of Sojourner Truth. We stand in reverence of her courage, wisdom, and enduring fight for justice. May her spirit continue to guide our work as we uplift community, empower women, and honor our heritage. 🌹✊🏾

Today, across New York State, we recognize Sojourner Truth Day. I am proud that we get to honor the legacy of freedom fighter and abolitionist Sojourner Truth, who made history in 1828 by becoming the first Black woman in the U.S. to win a court case against a white man.

Happy Sojourner Truth Day is celebrated on the anniversary of her death in 1883 in Battle Creek, MI. Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation S1480-A/A6583-A to establish November 26th as Sojourner Truth Day in the State of New York in 2024.
