🏀 Every Court Counts.

Across NYCHA, basketball courts are more than places to play — they are places where neighbors connect, young people build confidence, families gather, and community pride grows.

The Public Housing Community Fund is raising support to renovate basketball courts across NYCHA and help create safer, more vibrant spaces for public housing communities.

"...we have something that brings our community together."

One year ago, we cut the ribbon on a project that proved what is possible when residents lead the way. 🐾🌿

At Castle Hill Houses in the , residents helped shape a new green space for their community, including NYCHA’s first-ever dog park! Through , the Public Housing Community Fund, Center for Justice Innovation and Design Trust for Public Space worked alongside residents, New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), our lead designer, Grain Collective, and partners to support a community-led design process that turned local ideas into a real, lasting investment.

Green Space Connections centers resident voices to create welcoming outdoor spaces and recognizes that communities deserve the same quality amenities, care, and investment as every neighborhood in .

Today, that resident-led approach continues to guide the Public Housing Community Fund’s work as we scale Green Space Connections across all five boroughs to create spaces where residents can gather, play, rest, and thrive.

One year later, we are proud to look back on this first-ever dog park — and even more excited about what is ahead through the next iteration of Green Space Connections. 🌳 💚

Congratulations to the graduates of ARCscholars II! 🎓🏙️

This spring, a select group of talented NYCHA youth who previously completed the ARCscholars program continued their architectural journey through an advanced design experience focused on imagining a new music and performance center at Queensbridge Houses.

Building on the mission of ARCscholars—to introduce NYCHA youth to architecture, design, and the possibilities of shaping the built environment—these scholars transformed their ideas into professional-quality designs, developing both conceptual plans and AutoCAD drawings while receiving mentorship from architects, designers, and educators.

The cohort presented their final projects to architects and mentors, gaining valuable experience pitching their ideas in a professional setting and simulating the real-world client presentation process. Their creativity, dedication, and vision for their communities were on full display.

This 11th cohort of ARCscholars and paid summer internships is generously supported by the Pinkerton Foundation.

The future of architecture is brighter because of these young leaders. We can't wait to see what they build next.

NEW PLAYGROUND & SPLASH PAD INCOMING!

The newly renovated playground and splash pad at New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)'s Pomonok Houses will be more than just a makeover. It will be a vibrant new gathering space where families can play, cool off, connect, and build community for generations to come.

Designed hand-in-hand with residents, this project reflects the voices and needs of the people who call Pomonok home, creating a safer, healthier, and more energized neighborhood for all ages.

A huge thank you to Congressmember Grace Meng for helping secure the $550,000 that made this vision possible and for investing in a brighter future for this community.

Big news from Marlboro Houses in Brooklyn! 🌳💚

The Public Housing Community Fund joined New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), residents, and partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of a $500,000 resident-led open space project that will bring new pathways, sensory play features, stormwater mitigation, pollinator plantings, and, thanks to a donation by Cork Collective, a new sustainable cork surfacing to the NYCHA campus.

Through Green Space Connections, this project shows what is possible when residents help shape the future of their own community spaces.

Thank you to the Marlboro Houses Residents Association, NYCHA, The Design Trust for Public Space, The Urban Conga, Cork Collective, Center for Justice Innovation, Field Form, IFIXXNYC Builders, and The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust for helping bring this vision to life.

🎓 Congratulations to the newest graduates of the NYCHA Real Estate Scholars Program!

This past weekend, 32 NYCHA residents — including high school students and adult learners — completed the six-week college-level program at NYU School of Professional Studies NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate. Since March, participants spent Saturdays on NYU’s Greenwich Village campus learning directly from industry professionals about , , , , sustainability, and more — alongside site visits across New York City. 🏙️

“The next leaders in real estate are right here in New York City. The partnership with NYCHA and the Public Housing Community Fund gives us at Schack, a chance to teach the tools that make development happen and learn from a community well aware of how we can create better outcomes,” said Marc Norman, Associate Dean at NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate.

Now celebrating its fifth year, the program is helping open doors to careers in real estate while creating pathways to leadership, higher education, and economic opportunity for New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) residents. Thank you to our incredible partners at SPS Schack Institute of Real Estate, faculty, staff, and industry leaders for continuing to invest in the next generation of changemakers.

The future of New York City is being built by these scholars — and we can’t wait to see what they do next. 👏

During the month of March, Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani opened the doors of City Hall to New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) residents from across NYC to celebrate the culmination of From Roots to Arts, the first artist residency program in public housing. Together, we witnessed what becomes possible when community is given the space, resources, and trust to create.
