Hunger is often described as one of the world’s greatest challenges. But the truth is simpler and more urgent: hunger is solvable.

Today, 673 million people are living with chronic hunger. This is not because solutions do not exist. It is because the systems that shape our world continue to exclude millions of people, especially women, from the resources, decision-making and opportunities they need to thrive.

And yet, across the globe, a different reality is already taking shape. In communities where people are leading their own development, hunger is being reduced, resilience is being built and futures are being transformed.

This , we are reminded that ending hunger is not about charity. It is about transforming systems, investing in people and recognizing that those closest to the challenge are also closest to the solution.

A world without hunger is not a distant goal. It is already being built—community by community, leader by leader. The question is not whether we can end hunger. It is whether we will choose to.

Meet Abigail is a Ayuujk (Mixe) woman from Oaxaca, Mexico, a fierce defender of women and children's rights and a leader in her municipality. Recently, she shared with us, "My vision for the future is that no woman dares to be silent just because she have been told that "we look prettier when we are quiet." She has been working with The Hunger Project-Mexico to strengthen her own leadership skills to continue to make this vision a reality.

“In our village, hunger was a quiet, repetitive guest,” Violet recalls. For years, families in her community in Uganda lived with a dangerous misunderstanding—that good nutrition was only possible through expensive foods like meat. Because they could not afford it, many settled for repetitive meals, watching their children grow weak while believing there was no alternative.

Then came a simple but powerful realization: a balanced plate does not require a miracle. It requires a garden. “We simply did not know that our own local foods held the power to save us,” Violet shares.

Through the Mukama Mulungi Mother Club, The Hunger Project brought women together to learn about nutrition for moms and children. Together, the women leased over 1.5 acres of land and began growing biofortified maize, iron-rich beans, and orange-fleshed sweet potatoes. The results are profound: healthier pregnancies, stronger children, and three years without a single malnutrition-related death.

Their story is an example of how we can create a world without hunger. That this future is

Before The Hunger Project began working in her community in Mozambique, Olinda faced daily uncertainty, relying on irregular income to support her family. Through our Women’s Empowerment Program and integrated training in income generation, nutrition, and WASH, she gained the knowledge and confidence to take action. She began a small business producing biscuits, cookies, popcorn, and juices, turning new skills into sustainable income. But Olinda’s transformation didn’t stop there. Through her work, she now supports other families with affordable, locally made food and inspires women to pursue their own opportunities.

Olinda’s journey is a powerful reminder: when women are equipped with skills, knowledge, and opportunity, they don’t just change their own lives, they become agents of lasting change, transforming entire communities.
