Manisha, who is part of our ‘Team Oriole’, writes: “This post is hard to write, because we’ve been here before. Countless times. And I don’t understand why.
Oriole urgently needs a foster home. When his current, wonderful foster took him in 2 months ago, they had a deadline for travel. We hoped a home would materialize in that time. But none has. And now next week he is once again without a place to go.
If ever there was a magic bean, a Brooklyn boy, a deserving dog, this is him. To make his post I had to revisit his very first post, and I sobbed reading it. The torture this sweet creature endured is quite literally heartbreaking. Beatings and confinement and straight negligence. To have been beaten so badly your hip breaks - I simply cannot fathom it.
I first met Oriole in April, and was quick to be smitten. Since then my friend has spent a lot of time with him. Lauren’s shown him the world, a happy and safe version of it. And in return, through her camera, he has shown us who he is. A baby still, a curious and playful boy, a snuggle monster. His current foster mom, in response to almost any question says “I just love him.”
But this isn’t a Dodo video. Trauma is trauma, and this little boy bears the scars. That means an intense fear of men most of all.
What he needs now is a foster or adoptive home, a quiet one in a quiet area or with a yard he can use. Where his nervous system can settle. He needs an adult female home. Other pets will require a slow introduction, guided by a trainer who will be provided to you. Most of all he needs grace, time, and gentleness.
