Did you know less than 1,000 students currently attend Boys & Girls High School? That's less than 20% of the student population, given most of us were 1 amongst 5,000.

With enrollment at an all-time low, recruitment efforts are a priority. Simply, take 5 seconds to like, share, email or repost this message and spread the word. We claim THE HIGH is our home and it means so much to us, but if we don't treat it like #1, much like gentrification in our communities...someone else will.

In order for BGHS to regain it’s prominence as a school of excellence, more students need to enroll. We are asking alumni to join the Recruitment Committee and promote the new programs, educational initiatives, and opportunities at The High. The goal is to have graduating 8th graders and HS transfer students select BGHS as their first choice over the next two weeks.

On Saturday, March 5th at 10am, an alumni supported development meeting will be held in the Boys & Girls HS Auditorium. The purpose of this forum is to share information, develop strategies, and mobilize alumni action committees to preserve the legacy of The High. The focus will be on two core initiatives, Recruitment and Advocacy.

Alumni are asked to join the Recruitment Committee and promote the new programs, educational initiatives, and opportunities at the High. In order for BGHS to regain it’s prominence as “the Pride and Joy of Bed-Stuy,” more students need to enroll. Flyers and posters will be distributed to committee members to share with their communities and networks. The committee’s goal is to have graduating 8th graders and HS transfer students select BGHS as their first choice for the 2016-2017 year.

The Advocacy committee will focus on preserving the rich history and culture of BGHS in the political arena. There is currently a proposal to move Medgar Evers College Preparatory HS to the BGHS campus and we want to make sure that our students have adequate access and support. The Department of Education is holding public hearings before they vote on this proposal. We are asking alumni to join the Advocacy Committee and attend these sessions in support of BGHS.

Finally, while Recruitment and Advocacy are the primary goals of this meeting, information will also be shared regarding the other committees (Support, Outreach, Marketing, and Leadership) for those that are interested.

Calling all alumni, past educators, and friends of the high! We will be having a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, January 30 at 10am in the auditorium. We need to come together and stop the disservice of the current and future students of the high as the powers that be try to close our beloved school. Let your voice be heard! Please like and share with other alumni you know!!!
