67th Precinct Clergy Council The GodSquad Serves as the liaison between cops, community, and congregations, to promote healthy neighborhoods

The sharing of responsibility for public safety by police with community, social service agencies, and violence interrupter organizations, as coordinated by strong clergy leadership, continues to contribute toward historic declines and lows in crimes and criminal activity within the boundaries of the 67th Precinct. The 67th Precinct Clergy Council (GodSquad) serves as the liaison between the police, community, and congregations, to promote healthy neighborhoods while minimizing crime and reviving activism within our churches. The membership is composed of clergy, local pastors, associate pastors, ministers, elders, and evangelists. It focuses on lessening neighborhood tensions and the burdens on government, combating community deterioration and juvenile delinquency, and further supporting police officers, community, and houses of worship. Since 2010, with the full cooperation of the 67th Precinct, the Clergy Council has been a valued partner in the fight against senseless gun violence. The Clergy Council has responded to numerous calls concerning gunshot victims and their families with hospital visits, counseling sessions, prayer vigils, community walks, gun violence forums, and funeral services. We have the full support of the New York Police Department (NYPD), community members, support services, law enforcement, and religious leaders. With 70 member churches and our solid and esteemed board of directors, the Clergy Council was strongly positioned to make a great impact this year in the community that we love, serve, and cherish. The Public Safety Coalition’s plan, in operation since 2017, is designed to implement a collective, comprehensive, community initiative to decrease the involvement of young people in gangs, crimes, and gun violence within the jurisdiction of the 67th Precinct. This plan embodies a holistic approach involving various partners and supporters in our diverse neighborhood, with resources invested by these community partners for the betterment of the entire Brooklyn community.

Last week our NYC public schools reopened for the Fall semester, and on the first day of school our programs (Project ECHO, FLA, New Wave Alliance, FSC, PATH Forward) joined together at Meyer Levin IS 285 to welcome our students back with an After School Special. We provided students and parents with burgers & hot dogs, along with resources and school supplies needed for the upcoming year. We want to wish Principal Hendrickson, her faculty staff, and all the students at Meyer Levin and throughout our city, a wonderful and successful school year!

For five straight days our clergy, staff and volunteers participated in heavy street engagement for our Safe J’Ouvert/Labor Day Deployment keeping our community safe for the holiday weekend. We are proud to report once again, for back-to back years, our team efforts produced another Labor Day weekend with ZERO SHOOTINGS in our 67th precinct catchment area!

This great accomplishment is credited to the dedicated work of our clergy, staff, volunteers, our CVI division - , along with the faithful partnership of neighboring organizations .initiative and other local support.

We are most grateful for the collaborative work with the NYPD and the outstanding leadership and support from our Brooklyn Borough South Commander Chief Charles Minch and our 67 Precinct CO, Deputy Inspector Sony Beauvior. Together our efforts produced one of the safest J’Ouvert/Labor Day Weekends in the 67 - the heart of Brooklyn’s Caribbean community.

Our Clergy Team, led by Rev. Terry Lee, had E54th & Church on lock as we lifted them up in prayer during our 5-day Safe J’Ouvert deployment. Honored to have NYPD Deputy Commissioner Alden Foster on the ground with us to see our work first hand. 🙏🏾

Another great weekend as our New York State Governor Governor Kathy Hochul came down to the capital of Brooklyn, “East Flatbush”, for a walkthrough of our catchment area at Utica & Church Avenue to survey the land and see the work our Community Violence Intervention (CVI) organizations are doing to stem the tide of violence in the area.

We were blessed to share with the Governor our GodSquad “Another Way” Initiative, and also have her signature added along with Mayor Mamdani and other prominent leaders, as we camped outside of our CVI team Project ECHO, whose hard work has resulted in approximately 600 days without a fatal shooting within their catchment.

Special thanks to our Assembly Member Monique Chandler-Waterman for coordinating this historic walkthrough and her continued fight for resources to support our community.

IT’S BACK TO SCHOOL TIME!!! Our “Back to School” “School Supplies Giveaway” was a huge success as we teamed up with Rising Ground and their Atlas Program, giving back to our community, providing necessary supplies for our families in need for the start of the school year.

We wish all of our young people a blessed and prosperous 2026-2027 school year!! 🚌📓✏️📚✂️🏫
