The STATEN ISLAND GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY, INC (SIGS) was organized in 1972 to offer programs to the community on the study of geology and its related Earth Sciences. The aim of the Society is to encourage the collection and preservation of minerals, fossils, and other geological specimens, and the aesthetic appreciation of these specimens. The Society is a nonprofit organization, whose goal is to plan

activities for the pleasure and enjoyment of its members. It is assumed that our members will take an active role in the participation of the Society’s programs and activities. The continued existence of this Society is based upon the success of its programs and its members working together. Our yearly activities include ten scheduled meetings on the second Friday of each month, September to June, with interesting lecture programs, field trips, study workshops, visits to museums, rock quarries, and other places of special geological interest and above all, a friendly and pleasant atmosphere. The Society meets in the classroom of the Father Hicks Center, at St. Clare’s School, Lindenwood Road entrance, Great Kills, Staten Island, New York at 7:30 pm. Programs usually begin after a brief business meeting or by 8:15 pm. Dues are payable in September for the calendar year.
