Today, SIEDC was pleased to host a ‘Meet the Elected’ session, bringing together our members with NYC Council Majority Whip Kamillah Hanks and Minority Leader David Carr for an important conversation ahead of NYC’s budget deadline at the end June.

Topics of discussion included property tax reform, sanitation funding, investments in Staten Island’s cultural institutions, schools, and parks, and the continued need to advance infrastructure projects that will strengthen our borough’s future and drive economic growth.

SIEDC is proud to partner with our elected leaders at the city level and provide opportunities for our members to engage directly with policymakers, fostering collaboration and advancing initiatives that strengthen Staten Island’s economy and quality of life.

Thank you to member Matthew Sypa of ADCO Electrical Corporation for hosting this session in their conference room.

Today, we visited Staten Island’s Ocean Breeze Park & Athletic Complex alongside Park Administrator Lauren Primerano, Ocean Breeze Park Alliance Executive Director Mike Schnall, and Assemblyman Robert Carroll to tour the state-of-the-art facility and discuss the parks, open spaces, and athletic assets that make our borough a strong candidate to play a role in a potential 2042 NYC–Lake Placid Olympic bid.

SIEDC President & CEO Mike Cusick, who serves as a Trustee of the Ocean Breeze Park Alliance, joined the conversation on how investments in recreation, sports tourism, and public spaces continue to strengthen Staten Island’s economy and quality of life.

As home to one of New York City’s premier indoor athletic facilities, Staten Island has the infrastructure to complement venues across the five boroughs, helping showcase the very best of New York City on the world stage in a future Olympic bid.

Being named a “20 Under 40” honoree is more than a recognition for Professor Sean Thatcher of the College of Staten Island—it’s a reminder of the impact educators can have in shaping the environmental leaders of tomorrow.

Our veterans have demonstrated extraordinary service, courage, and sacrifice for our country—and this is one small way we can give back.

The Staten Island Veterans Discount Program, a partnership between SIEDC, the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, and Staten Island Borough President Vito J. Fossella, connects veterans with discounts and special offers at participating businesses across the borough. Today, more than 200 businesses and 1,000 veterans have joined the program.

By enrolling, veterans receive a membership card that provides access to discounts on dining, shopping, professional services, and more throughout Staten Island.

Veterans and businesses interested in joining the program can contact SIEDC at (718) 477-1400, ext. 813 or [email protected].
