🚨HEARTBREAKING: Columbia, South Carolina police officer Chris DeLong, 29, was killed in the line of duty Saturday.

He was a husband and a father of two. Two years on the job. First Columbia officer killed that way in more than 50 years.

He answered a domestic call. A woman had a restraining order. The man had a record across multiple states. Officers later found him. Gunfire. Officer David Dymock was also shot and is stable. The suspect, Adam Dowdy, 33, was killed.

His widow, Hannah:

“I am heartbroken. My person. My love. The best dad to our babies and the person I’ve been with since I was 16 was killed today in the line of duty… Somebody wake me up. I’ve never had to be without Chris. I’m going to figure this out because I have to live for my babies. I need my person.”

It is with profound sadness that the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office California informs our community of the loss of Correctional Officer Ryan Marietti.

In the early morning hours of August 28, 2026, Ryan was involved in a solo-vehicle accident on Highway 50 near Strawberry, CA. This tragic accident took the life of a member of our Sheriff’s Office family and a valued member of our community.

Ryan began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in December of 2024, serving at both the Placerville and South Lake Tahoe Jails. Among his many attributes, Ryan demonstrated a strong work ethic, professionalism, and a genuine desire to grow within the Sheriff’s Office. He had set his sights on advancing through the ranks and building a career in service to our community.

Prior to his employment with the Sheriff’s Office, Ryan was a member of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 457, where he excelled and proudly represented the Post as a member of its competition team. Ryan was also an alumnus of Ponderosa High School, graduating in 2023.

Ryan will be greatly missed—not only by his family and friends, but by his EDSO family and the community he proudly chose to serve.

BREAKING NEWS: 2 COPS SHOT 🚨 PRAYERS REQUESTED 🚨 The Columbia Police Department, SC said that two of their officers were shot and the suspect is dead. SLED and the Richland County Sheriff's Department are investigating. Few details are available at this time, more are expected. 🙏 Please keep the injured officers, their families, and fellow law enforcement officers in your prayers.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Gary Knott.

Trooper Knott dedicated his career to protecting others and serving the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. His loss is felt not only by those who served alongside him, but throughout the entire first responder community.

Today, we honor Trooper Knott’s service, his sacrifice, and the commitment he made each day to keeping others safe.

Our hearts are with his family, friends, fellow Troopers, and the entire Pennsylvania State Police family during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, Trooper Knott. Thank you for your service. 💙
