This month we are spotlighting Kwame Ofori, 2023 First Workings alum. He attends the High School of Computers and Technology and aspires to be a medical doctor in the future. He secured an internship after his mentor after joining our program and is sharing his story with us.
My First Workings mentorship was very impactful and fruitful. First, the diverse workshops in financial literacy, internships, networking and professionalism were very insightful. They provided me with significant information to evolve professionally and personally. I continue to apply these skills and lessons in my everyday life. Also, I had the opportunity to be mentored by a pediatrician who enlightened me about my preferred field of study. If anything this mentorship experience made my love for the medical sciences grow and has confirmed my passions. I am extremely thankful to First Workings to have given me this invaluable opportunity. While I enjoyed the workshops a lot, what I loved the most about my first workings experience was the mentorship/internship opportunity. Listening to the advice of my mentor, Dr. Gluck, who was practically living my dreams, was so inspirational. I enjoyed every bit of it and I hope to make the same impacts on the young and rising youth in the near future.
First Workings has helped develop my interest and passions in medical sciences. Through the Alumni services, I currently shadow a my mentor at a private practice. This experience is like no other. By observing consultations, exams, procedures, and diagnoses, I have gained substantial medical knowledge. I believe that this experience lays the groundwork for my future training, work and career.
