Wellsprings Resilience Technique

Wellsprings Resilience Technique The Wellspring Resilience Technique (WRT) is an innovative method for increasing long-term resilience While evaluating a program in Afghanistan in 2009 Mr.

Daly narrowly missed a su***de bomber attack that blew up the guesthouse (in Herat) where he was planning to stay. This made him realize that not enough was being done to equip workers for facing the stress of crisis situations, especially over the span of longer-term assignments. Through in-depth interviews with experienced humanitarian workers about how they stayed motivated despite the challeng

es they face in their work, it became clear that the people who stayed most productive in challenging circumstances drew on a wellspring of personal resilience, even though it was different for each person and was not necessarily deliberately or knowingly developed. The need for a practical, systematic and universally appealing approach to developing resilience became apparent. An individualized technique to inspire workers and improve resilience was devised involving a concentrated empowerment memory bank. Practical aspects of brain-science were incorporated to maximize effectiveness. Feedback from focus groups and review sessions was incorporated in the development process of the WRT training. The technique offers a foundation for humanitarian workers where no training currently exists. Bureaucratic, technological, and financial obstacles are avoided by focusing individuals on their own ability to use memories for empowerment. In the medium term, incorporating aspects of positive psychology and mental health awareness into humanitarian culture will mean less professional attrition, a more experienced community, and more effective missions. In the long term, the technique can be adapted for broader audiences, including students and emergency workers.

Hi Friends of Resilience,
Happy New Year 2026 to ye all …
In the last quarter of 2025, there were 3 Resilience engagements:

a) Teachers at Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES (27 October)
‘On behalf of the Community and Schools Together Conference team, I want to sincerely thank you for presenting at this year’s event. The feedback we received about your session was incredible, attendees found it engaging, insightful, and highly valuable.
Your expertise and willingness to share your knowledge made a meaningful impact on our community, and we are truly grateful for your contribution.
Thank you again for helping make this conference a success. I hope to collaborate with you again in the future!’

b) On 11 November I presented to Veterans and their families at Springville Center for the Arts, the Springville Griffith Institute and the Concord Veterans Care Project. The attached video is all about Grit, Resilience and more Grit. (GO TO REELS TO FIND VIDEO OF THE EVENT)

c) On 17 December (Bhutan’s National Day) I shared resilience tips with UN Bhutan Colleagues (new interns); Choney Lhazom Wangchuk co-facilitated the resilience presentation.

Gerry Daly

Summary feedback on resilience workshop (24 and 28 July) by participants from Genesis House in Olean (NY) whose mission ‘is to provide secure temporary housing and supportive services as homeless adults and families transition to more stable housing’:
a) ‘Great workshop you should come with an open mind and be ready to share. Like many things in life, you get out of it what you’re willing to put in.
b) This workshop provides insightful thoughts about what I can do to build my resiliency.
c) It gave me insight into my own resilience. The workshop made me think about good and bad habits and introduced me to habits and nudges.
d) Very valuable if you are interested but not sure how much you’d get out of it if you aren’t in the mental space to learn and care.
e) The workshop was on aggregate a positive and useful experience. Be prepared to be active and participate.
f) It gives you tools to cope with burnout. It gives you ideas to build resilience’
