ALS United Greater New York

ALS United Greater New York ALS United GNY - Empowering the ALS community with comprehensive local care, advocacy, & research. The search for answers knows no bounds.

The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter symbolizes the hopes of people everywhere that Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis will one day be a disease of the past - relegated to historical status, studied in medical textbooks, conquered by the dedication of thousands who have worked ceaselessly to understand and eradicate this perplexing killer. As the only not-for-profit voluntary health agency dedi

cated solely to the fight against ALS, we direct the largest privately-funded research enterprise engaged to uncover the mystery of a disease that affects as many as 30,000 annually. With more than 5,600 people diagnosed each year - an average of 15 new cases each day - our mission is urgent.

Living with ALS can often come with an emotional weight that so many families quietly carry: the worry, the shifting roles, the exhaustion, the small moments of grief, and the deep love that holds everything together. It's a lot for one person, or even one family, to hold alone.

That's why we offer a dedicated mental health program, made possible through the generosity of the Pulley family, connecting individuals and families with Licensed Clinical Social Workers who understand ALS: the language, the challenges, and the complex mix of hope and heartache that comes with this diagnosis.

You don't have to carry this alone. To learn more or access the program, contact your Care Team and visit als-ny.org.

One more hurdle cleared! The Senate HELP Committee has approved the ACT for ALS Reauthorization Act. This bipartisan progress reflects the persistence and advocacy of our ALS community in calling on Congress to reauthorize these critical programs. With the current law expiring in September, Congress must act to ensure this work can continue. Ask your Members of Congress to support ACT for ALS reauthorization:

At ALS United Greater New York last year, ALS Care support extended to more than 1,200 individuals and families through comprehensive care addressing physical, emotional, and practical needs, including access to free communication devices and durable medical equipment, assistive technology assessments to improve home safety, and opportunities for families to connect and learn through education programs. These numbers represent only a small part of what this care truly means. Behind every piece of equipment delivered, every home made accessible, every clinic visit coordinated, and every support group held is our shared commitment to dignity, connection, and support, so no one in our ALS community has to navigate this journey alone. ALS support groups provide a caring, supportive, open, and safe environment for people to gather, connect, and talk with one another. Our social workers and nurses facilitate these virtual support groups. While support groups are regional, anyone can attend any group that works for their schedule. Visit als-ny.org for a full schedule.

This June, ALS United Greater New York celebrates Pride Month and the LGBTQIA+ individuals, allies, families, caregivers, and advocates whose lives strengthen our ALS community. As a values-driven organization, we believe in a culture of service and support for ALL, and we're committed to equitable access to ALS care and treatment for everyone.

ALS doesn't discriminate, and neither does our community.

This month, we're lifting up Ken and Ken: a couple who shared careers in fashion, a home in the Hamptons, and decades of life together, until ALS arrived uninvited.

A huge Thank You to Robert Galietta, Catherine Boudreau, and Nora McBrien for their incredible dedication and support of ALS United Greater New York!
On Monday, June 1, they took on an amazing challenge at The Woods at Cherry Creek in Riverhead, playing 108 holes of golf (36 holes each!) during their fundraising event, Golf Holes for Team Lisa.
Thanks to their hard work and the generosity of their supporters, they raised more than $5,000 to help support individuals and families affected by ALS throughout our community.
We are so grateful for Robert, Catherine, Nora, and everyone who donated to make this event a success. Together, we are making a difference and moving closer to a world without ALS. Learn how to create your own fundraiser at als-ny.org.
