The 24th Precinct Community Council was proud to honor Assistant Chief Aaron Edwards for his extraordinary courage in the face of danger.
Earlier this month, during a chaotic protest outside Gracie Mansion, two individuals threw IEDs into a crowd, devices capable of causing serious injury or worse.
Without hesitation, Assistant Chief Edwards ran toward the threat, even as one of the devices was ignited and thrown directly in front of him and his fellow officers. He vaulted over a barricade and helped take down the suspect, putting himself in harm’s way to protect both his fellow officers and the public.
We were also proud to honor 24th Precinct Officer Nilda Quezada, who was mere inches from the device when it was thrown. Her composure and strength in that moment reflect the very best of our department.
The 24th Precinct Community Council is proud to have been the first group in New York City to recognize these heroes. We were joined by Precinct Council Presidents from across the borough who came together to show their support and gratitude.
