Change doesn’t happen through one lever - it happens when working together.

At TAC, our approach rests on three pillars: political advocacy, global convenings, and mass media campaigns. Each one reinforces the others - political will needs public pressure, public pressure needs informed citizens, and informed citizens need leaders willing to listen.

Our work in political advocacy is also why you’ll find us engaging at the UN level - because national buy-in and global policy conversations move together.

Every year, an estimated 385 million people across the African region are pushed into or deeper into poverty by out-of-pocket health costs — even as government budgets tighten and external aid declines.

This week in Addis Ababa, health ministers at the WHO Regional Committee for Africa endorsed the Strategy for Financing the Future of Health in the WHO African Region (2026–2035): a decade-long roadmap built on seven priority reforms, from stronger domestic resource mobilization to smarter, more strategic use of existing health budgets.

The ambition by 2035: more countries sustaining real increases in health spending, stronger financial protection for patients, and steady progress toward fewer families pushed into poverty by the cost of care.

The Access Challenge is proud to work with regional partners to help build the systems needed for healthier, more resilient generations to come.

Flashback to UNGA - but this year, we're not just reflecting on the past. We're looking ahead to what's next. 🌍

TAC's work doesn't stop on the ground. We connect every campaign we run into policy at the highest global level: the United Nations.

This September, world leaders will gather at UNGA 81 for a critical moment: the UN High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (PPPR), at UN Headquarters in New York. This meeting will shape how the world prepares for and responds to the next public health emergency.

TAC has been part of this process every step of the way - for over 6 years, engaging with the UN through campaigns, conferences, and major health declarations, from Universal Health Coverage to mental health to HIV to pandemic preparedness and beyond - pushing for the voices and needs of communities on the ground to be reflected in global policy. Because real change happens when what we build on the ground shapes the frameworks made at the top. And on September 25, we'll be there in person to help get this one to the finish line.

The DRC is facing its deadliest Ebola outbreak on record—and it is not because the virus itself is unstoppable, but because ongoing conflicts and logistic hurdles are crippling containment efforts.

-> Conflict & insecurity: Fighting in Ituri and North Kivu blocks health workers from - reaching affected areas, hampering contact tracing and treatment.
-> No approved vaccine: This is the rare Bundibugyo strain, not Zaire — so there's no licensed vaccine or proven treatment, only early trials.
-> Late detection: Early symptoms mimic malaria and typhoid, letting the virus spread silently for weeks before confirmation.
->Community mistrust: Years of conflict and misinformation have bred resistance to health teams, including attacks on treatment centers.

This is why access matters. We're proud to partner with Africa CDC and WHO Africa to better understand these barriers and help health systems reach the communities that need them most.
