Flashback to UNGA - but this year, we're not just reflecting on the past. We're looking ahead to what's next. 🌍

TAC's work doesn't stop on the ground. We connect every campaign we run into policy at the highest global level: the United Nations.

This September, world leaders will gather at UNGA 81 for a critical moment: the UN High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (PPPR), at UN Headquarters in New York. This meeting will shape how the world prepares for and responds to the next public health emergency.

TAC has been part of this process every step of the way - for over 6 years, engaging with the UN through campaigns, conferences, and major health declarations, from Universal Health Coverage to mental health to HIV to pandemic preparedness and beyond - pushing for the voices and needs of communities on the ground to be reflected in global policy. Because real change happens when what we build on the ground shapes the frameworks made at the top. And on September 25, we'll be there in person to help get this one to the finish line.

The DRC is facing its deadliest Ebola outbreak on record—and it is not because the virus itself is unstoppable, but because ongoing conflicts and logistic hurdles are crippling containment efforts.

-> Conflict & insecurity: Fighting in Ituri and North Kivu blocks health workers from - reaching affected areas, hampering contact tracing and treatment.
-> No approved vaccine: This is the rare Bundibugyo strain, not Zaire — so there's no licensed vaccine or proven treatment, only early trials.
-> Late detection: Early symptoms mimic malaria and typhoid, letting the virus spread silently for weeks before confirmation.
->Community mistrust: Years of conflict and misinformation have bred resistance to health teams, including attacks on treatment centers.

This is why access matters. We're proud to partner with Africa CDC and WHO Africa to better understand these barriers and help health systems reach the communities that need them most.

"Udindo wothandizira" (shared responsibility) isn't just a slogan, it's a practice: a vaccine as a promise kept to everyone around you, carried forward by youth determined to make that promise travel.

At the One By One: Target Routine Vaccination launch in Phalombe, organized by The Access Challenge with the Malawi Ministry of Health, and ADECOTS, with funding from Pfizer, young people were out in full force. Performances lit up the event as the crowd gathered at Phaloni Ground, with youth holding up posters. Alongside Lhomwe Paramount Chief Dr. Kaduya and other district leaders, Phalombe's youth helped turn a vaccination drive into a genuine community event, using comedy, music, and football to get people talking about vaccines in a way that flyers just can't.

This International Youth Day, we want to highlight this moment — since the launch, more than 19,700 people across Thyolo and Phalombe Districts have been reached through roadshows like this one, a reminder that when young people show up and lead, real and lasting change is possible in their communities.
