New York Chapter of the Association for Gravestone Studies The New York Chapter of the not-for-profit organization AGS is dedicated to the study and preservation of gravemarkers of all periods and styles.

The Association for Gravestone Studies (AGS) was founded in 1977 for the purpose of furthering the study and preservation of gravestones and cemeteries. AGS is an international organization with an interest in gravemarkers and cemeteries of all periods and styles. Among the members of AGS are professionals and amateurs; individuals, organizations, and institutions. They represent the fields of ant

hropology, art history, religion, linguistics, photography, folk art, commemorative art, genealogy, historic preservation and others. The New York Chapter was founded in 2013 to promote the goals of AGS on a state level. Eva Bowerman is the Chapter Chair and Sarah Tietje is Secretary.

Carvers & Cocktails Live Zoom Events!

Come join AGS via ZOOM* at 7:00 PM EST on each evening for an hour of educational and entertaining special talks by well-known carvers. During each event the carvers will introduce you to their workshop, past projects, and approaches for new commissions of this historic sculptural trade - gravestone carving. After the presentation, the audience will have the opportunity to chat live with the carver. So, get comfortable, mix your drink, and join AGS on an adventure into the world of contemporary gravestone carvings.
