I understand why people are shocked by this, she looked like an ordinary person with her children’s toys on the seats and her dog in the car, not someone posing a deadly threat. Yet an ICE agent shot her multiple times in the head. That raises very serious questions about use of force and judgement. �

Yes, she may have made a mistake by trying to drive away, but the video and eyewitness accounts suggest she wasn’t aggressively trying to kill anyone. The idea that someone believed she was trying to intentionally run down an officer, enough to justify three shots at point-blank range — seems extreme and demands accountability. �

Whatever happened, the officer’s actions need to be reviewed thoroughly. If someone can’t assess a situation without resorting to lethal force in circumstances like this, then they should not be armed or placed in positions where they make life-and-death decisions.
