In a five-star hotel bathroom in India, a bar of soap is left behind. That same soap eventually reaches the hands of a child in one of Maharashtra's most remote tribal villages, carried there by a woman from that very community who has become a trained public health leader.

In Mokhada, our hygiene ambassadors are not just distributing soap. They are running fifty health education sessions a month across 59 villages, trusted by schools, Anganwadis, and the local Health Department to deliver critical health information to women and girls who need it most.

In a region where 65% of tribal women live with anaemia and the infant mortality rate is 41.6 per 1,000 live births, their work is making a real difference.

During a recent visit to Mokhada, India, our founder Erin watched students line up outside their classroom to wash their hands before the school day began. 📚

Older children helped the younger ones pour water over their hands. They reminded each other not to forget the soap. 🧼

It was a simple routine, but it revealed something important. In many communities like Mokhada, families don’t always have consistent access to soap. Without it, preventable illness becomes part of daily life.

When children have access to soap and hygiene education, they stay healthier and bring those habits home to their families. A simple act like handwashing can ripple through an entire community. ✨🫧

In Mokhada, our programme is reaching children aged 3–8 across 59 villages and 229 public health centres this year 🤍

We work with tribal communities, where children are especially vulnerable and often miss out on consistent government support. That’s where we step in.

Through early health education, we’re helping build stronger foundations for children who are too often overlooked. 🧼✨

Recently, our team spent time on the ground in Rwanda 🇷🇼, visiting communities involved in Sundara’s soap projects.

Seeing this work firsthand is a powerful reminder that access to soap is about far more than hygiene alone 🧼.

For children, it supports healthier daily routines, helping them stay well, attend school, and focus on learning and play. For families, it brings dignity and peace of mind in everyday life.

We also spent time with women involved in producing the soap, who shared that this work has empowered them to educate others in their community about the importance of hygiene .

Through fair-wage employment, women are gaining financial stability, confidence, and greater independence for themselves and their families.

These impacts are deeply connected. When women are supported with meaningful work, communities are stronger. When children are healthier, families thrive 🌱. What may seem like a simple bar of soap carries ripple effects that extend far beyond a single moment or distribution.

Last month, our partners at distributed 246 hygiene kits and led 6 workshops on menstrual health and general hygiene for vulnerable youth in Gisagara District.

We also reached children at Wir für Ruanda, ensuring that young people with disabilities were supported with the same care and attention as everyone else.

Together, we’re helping more youth access the hygiene resources and education they deserve. 💛
