🎬 Filmshopper Highlight: Taylor McNulty’s The OWLS

The OWLS is on its festival run and already picking up momentum. The short documentary screened at the Short Sweet Film Festival (Cleveland) and took home Best Short Documentary at the Citrus Circuit Film Festival.

The film follows a group of Old Widowed Ladies navigating grief and finding connection with one another; tender, honest, and quietly powerful.

Shoutout to Pearl Rhein for the original score and Rachel Loube for MC’ing the Cleveland screening.

More screenings to come.

Filmshopper Mariah Marasco is premiering her web series Misguided at Dances With Films: NY, and it’s one you’ll want to catch with a crowd. Misguided screens on Wednesday, January 15, at 6:00 PM as part of Pilots Block 1 at Regal Union Square.
Directed and produced by Mariah, the series follows a group of misfit tour guides giving eccentric takes on New York City’s history while quietly trying to figure out their own paths forward. It’s sharp, funny, and very much of the moment.

If you’re free that night, come through, support a fellow Filmshopper, and stay for the block. Grab your seat here: https://loom.ly/kySGBcs

Filmmaking isn’t about perfection.
It’s about being seen.

In this Breakthrough Series moment, filmmaker speaks to the quiet invisibility so many caregivers carry. Her film reminds us how powerful it is to be recognized.

This is what happens when filmmakers are in community: there’s room to reset, to be honest, and to tell the story anyway.

During Giving Season, your support helps sustain spaces like this.

Because community is how breakthroughs happen.

🎉 BIG news from the Filmshop fam!

Cashing Out, a short doc by Matt Nadel and Luke Hodges, has been shortlisted for an Academy Award 🤯🏆

This project was workshopped at Filmshop back when it was still early ideas in Docshop, and watching it grow into an Oscar-shortlisted film is everything we love about this community.

Huge congrats to Matt, Luke, and the entire team! 👏👏👏
