On July 18–19, the New York City Poetry Festival returns for its 15th year, bringing together thousands of poets, artists, and poetry lovers for a free weekend of readings, performances, open mics, interactive art, workshops, and more.
We're excited for Filmshop House to be part of this incredible celebration of language and creativity. Whether you're a filmmaker, writer, or simply someone who loves a good story, come spend the weekend with us and experience one of New York City's most inspiring summer traditions.

From the TVShop room to production, Filmshopper Meghann Wilhoite has launched a Seed&Spark campaign for Witch Amiss, a half-hour comedy developed during the Spring 2026 TVShop season.

The project follows a cranky 600-year-old witch forced to reconnect with her coven to protect a tween witch in peril — and after recently filming the pilot, the team is now raising funds for post-production and the next stage of the project’s journey.

We love seeing projects continue to grow long after workshop season ends.

Our friends at UnionDocs Center for Documentary Art are currently accepting applications for their highly respected Collaborative Studio (CoLAB), an eight-month immersive program bringing together 12 interdisciplinary artists, filmmakers, researchers, and storytellers from around the world to create bold new documentary work through collective collaboration.

Hosted at UnionDocs in Ridgewood, Queens, the program offers participants an intensive creative environment with mentorship, production meetings, screenings, critiques, guest artist seminars, and the opportunity to collectively develop and produce original short films alongside an international cohort.
Past CoLAB projects have gone on to screen at IDFA, Hot Docs, MoMA Doc Fortnight, DOC NYC, True/False, BAM, Brooklyn Museum, and festivals around the world.

Congratulations to Filmshopper Cheri Gaulke on the upcoming world premiere of her feature documentary ACTING LIKE WOMEN at the Bentonville Film Festival on June 17.

Seven years in the making and executive produced by Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner, the film explores the legacy of the feminist performance art movement that emerged from Los Angeles's Woman's Building and the artists who helped reshape the cultural landscape through their work.

The film will also have its West Coast Premiere at Frameline on June 21.

We're excited to see this important project reach audiences and begin its festival journey.

Congratulations to Jenny Curtis, whose short film A Comfort will make its festival premiere at the Lighthouse International Film Festival on June 12 as part of Shorts Block #7.

Originally workshopped in Filmshop LA, A Comfort imagines a near future where a y a young girl and her estranged aunt must learn to trust one another against the backdrop of an increasingly authoritarian world.

We love seeing projects move from the workshop room to the big screen. Congrats to Jenny and the entire team on this exciting milestone.

🏠 The Filmshop House is back. This weekend, we officially kick off another season on Governors Island with screenings, workshops, conversations, and gatherings created by and for filmmakers.

Join us for our opening event, Reclaiming Narrative: The Stories We Carry, led by Filmshopper .

Drawing from her work on her current projects, Black Butterflies and Born Captive, Starling will lead a conversation about transforming lived experience into powerful storytelling, reclaiming personal narratives, and creating work that moves beyond the screen.

🍄🎬 Filmshopper Highlight!

Dane Benko's horror short SHROOMERY is headed to the Lighthouse International Film Festival for its festival premiere.

Part splatstick comedy, part body horror, SHROOMERY follows a couple on the verge of a breakup who must team up to fight off a growth of malicious mushrooms that has overtaken their refrigerator.

We're always excited to see projects leave the workshop room and find their audience. Congratulations to Dane and the team on this next step in the film's journey.
