BJKLI was founded to challenge the way race, gender, and sexuality are used to discriminate against people and prevent them from reaching their full potential.

We encourage companies and individuals to embrace those with diverse personalities and lifestyles for the positive and unique contributions they bring to the workforce. Our work culminates with a biennial leadership conference in New York City, which convenes leaders from corporations, non-profits, and universities to share ideas and experiences in the areas of cross-cultural leadership and diverse talent.

We were thrilled to celebrate the 2026 ESPN Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award National Honorees, Julia Howe, Kelis Armstrong, and Samuel Phillips at last night’s 12th Annual Sports Humanitarian Awards.

Congratulations to this year’s recipient of the Billie Jean King Award for Excellence in Women’s Sports Coverage, Katie Barnes of ESPN!

We are proud to recognize Katie in partnership with the Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) and the APSE Foundation for outstanding journalism that elevates women’s sports and the athletes who are shaping its future.

Barnes finished ahead of runner-up Amie Just of the Lincoln Journal Star, as well as two writers who tied for third place: Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune and Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle.

Congratulations to Katie and all of this year’s outstanding finalists. Your dedication to telling the stories of women’s sports helps elevate athletes, inspire audiences, and ensure these moments receive the recognition they deserve.

Congratulations to the 2026 ESPN Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award national honorees: Kelis Armstrong, Julia Howe, and Samuel Phillips.

We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible impact Kelis, Julia, and Samuel are making as they harness the power of sport to strengthen and uplift their communities. They now join a remarkable network of more than 100 youth leaders who have been recognized through this award since it began in 2019.

The 3 national honorees will attend the Sports Humanitarian Awards and The ESPYS in New York, and receive a $10,000 charitable grant to go towards their aligned nonprofit or a one-time college academic scholarship. Plus, 20 regional honorees will receive a $2,500 charitable grant to go towards their aligned nonprofit or a one-time college academic scholarship.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Maegha Ramanathan, one of the 2025 national recipients of the ESPN Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award, on being named a 2026 TIME Visionary. This well-deserved recognition highlights the extraordinary impact she is making, and we are thrilled to see her leadership and work celebrated on such a prominent stage.

Ramanathan sees the recognition as proof of what young people can accomplish together: “It’s all thanks to the power of youth—what youth can do when they come together.”

Congratulations to our founder on receiving her bachelor’s degree from yesterday.

After stepping away from her studies in the 1960s to pursue becoming the world’s number one tennis player, Billie Jean’s decision to return and complete her degree is a powerful reminder of the transformative impact of education and lifelong learning.

As Billie Jean shared: “It is never, ever, too late to finish what you have started.”

We are incredibly proud of her remarkable achievement and the inspiration she continues to provide to generations on and off the court. 👏🎓

As part of the Sports Humanitarian Awards and the ESPYS, the Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award honors youth leaders who are using sport as a force for positive change in their communities, continuing the legacy of our founder, Billie Jean King, and her lifelong commitment to leadership, service, and equity through sport.

The three national honorees will receive either a $10,000 charitable grant to an eligible nonprofit aligned with their work or a one-time $10,000 college scholarship, while 20 regional honorees will receive either a $2,500 charitable grant or a one-time $2,500 college scholarship.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jason Collins, the first openly gay NBA player, a founding advisory board member for the , and our dear friend.

Jason changed lives through his courage, authenticity, and commitment to helping others feel seen.

His legacy extends far beyond basketball. He helped move sports and society forward with strength.  We share our heartfelt condolences with his loved ones and all who were impacted by his life and leadership.
