EL CONSULADO celebrates the public presentation of The Plastic Sea, a large-scale participatory installation by Venezuelan interdisciplinary artist Frahydel Falczuk, as part of NYC DOT Art’s Car-Free Earth Day 2026. Part of the 56th anniversary of Earth Day and will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., transforming streets across all five boroughs into spaces for environmental programming, public art, performance, and collective action.
Its first large-scale construction took place in the days leading up to the opening of EL CONSULADO, during the ChaShaMa residency. That moment marked a key transition for the work. Moving from Roosevelt Island into Manhattan, The Plastic Sea was carried, assembled, and activated with the participation of EL CONSULADO members, becoming part of the collective’s inaugural public experience.
