71,000 people are New York Cares volunteers. Here’s why that matters.

Nationally, volunteering still hasn’t recovered from the pandemic, and New York is one of the hardest places in the country to recruit. But here’s how New Yorkers are showing folks how it’s done:

📈 66,000 to 71,000 volunteers, up 7.5%
⏱️ 210,832 hours served
💵 $8.3 million contributed to our city

Winter Wishes is officially back! Every holiday season, New York Cares grants wishes for NYC children and teens who might not otherwise get to unwrap something special. This year, our goal is to fulfill 26,000 wishes, and we need you to help get us there.

Here’s how it works:
🪄Register as a Wish Granter starting now
💌 In early November, you’ll be matched with a child’s wish letter
🎁 Send their gift ($40 or less) to a local Community Partner by December 4

Give a gift. Grant a wish.

Is a cartoon owl guilt-tripping you into your daily Spanish lesson? We don't care.

But we DO care that New York Cares just hit 71,000 volunteers! 🎉

And our streak is on fire: that's 50,000+ new volunteers since the pandemic. 📈

That's 71,000 New Yorkers who are fluent in the language of doing good, and they've got the vocab to prove it:
🧥 "Here, stay warm." (Coat Drive)
📚 "Let's figure this out together." (Stand with Students)
🍎 "We saved you a plate." (Meal service)
🌳 "Hand me that shovel." (Parks & gardens)

No passive aggressive push notifications... Just New Yorkers showing up for each other, again and again.

Ready to start your streak? Become volunteer #71,001 at newyorkcares.org. 🔥

It’s home opener night at the Garden, and we’re cheering on the New York Rangers! 🏒

Earlier this preseason, the Rangers gifted New York Cares staff and volunteers tickets to a game, and our group had a blast cheering on our Blueshirts together. Thank you for such a fun night! 💙

The Rangers are part of the NYC Sports Coalition, a group of NYC teams that come together every year to support the New York Cares Coat Drive (coming soon!) and help keep New Yorkers warm through the winter.

We’re so grateful to the Rangers and all our coalition partners for their support on and off the ice: New York Knicks 🏀 New York Liberty New York Jets

Good luck tonight, Blueshirts! 🎉 !

This September 25, we’re asking ourselves: What Would Dolly Do? 🦋

To celebrate Dolly Parton Day (9 2 5...), you can honor the legacy of Dolly and her Imagination Library by reading to NYC students in kindergarten through 2nd grade! 🩷

Join us at P.S. 171 in Harlem for a short dance party to get the event started, then pair up with a student to read an age-appropriate book. Students will go home with a free book at the end. 📚

Get your Dolly Day on at the link below.
