Amazing things happen for a community when we show students that we care. 📚

Volunteers from PwC rolled up their sleeves and joined New York Cares at .S. 200 The James McCune Smith School, to help create brighter, more welcoming spaces for students to learn and grow.

From revitalizing school spaces to building a school pantry, these volunteers showed what it means to invest in the next generation of New Yorkers. When companies like PwC show up for our schools, the whole community feels it.

Thank you to everyone who gave their time. This is how we build a stronger NYC, one school, one classroom, one volunteer at a time. 💛

What makes a good neighbor? We asked New Yorkers what kind of neighbors they want and hope to be.

On May 16, New York Cares celebrated Good Neighbor Day America across all five boroughs, where volunteers planted, painted, sorted, and served, turning a few generous hours into a better city for their neighbors.

Our flagship Cares Village at New York City Public Schools PS19Q came to life thanks to Together We Can Community Resource Center Inc.. Huge thanks to Love Has No Limits and America250 for helping empower our community, Boll and Branch for providing sleepers, and to former Congressman Joe Crowley, Council Member Shanel Thomas-Henry, and NYS Assembly Member Jessica González-Rojas for rolling up their sleeves with us.

REASONS ✨YOU SHOULDN’T✨ VOLUNTEER WITH NEW YORK CARES

1. You’d hate to lower your stress, boost your mood, and feel more connected to your city. Researchers literally call it the “helper’s high.” 🥰

2. Studies show volunteers report less depression, less anxiety, and a greater sense of meaning in life. If being a Debbie Downer is your thing, you might want to avoid! But PS - even the OG Debbie Downer volunteers with New York Cares… ‼️

3. The thought of fixing up a classroom, painting a mural, or delivering meals to a neighbor sounds way too fulfilling. 🥗

4. People who volunteer regularly tend to have stronger social connections and even better heart health. You prefer your isolation, thank you. 👯‍♀️

5. Free snacks, good playlists, and strangers who become friends? No thanks. 🥨

6. Just two hours a week is the sweet spot researchers point to for the biggest wellbeing boost. Way too good to be true. 🩺

7. You can’t risk catching feelings for this city all over again. 😍

Bing... and dare we say... B**G! 🏀

Congratulations to our partner the New York Knicks on their Eastern Conference championship! After sweeping the Cavs and bringing the NBA Finals to the Garden for the first time since 1999, this city is buzzing. We could not be prouder to root for you.

Here’s what know about New York: when we show up for each other, we always win.

That’s the work New York Cares does every day, neighbor by neighbor, block by block. And with the support of partners like the Knicks and the Sports Coalition, we get to activate some of the greatest fandoms in the world.

So let’s keep cheering and let’s give back.

Go Knicks! 💙🧡

Crypto showed up for the Bronx. 🎨🔨

Last week, MoonPay teamed up with New York Cares to bring the Crypto for Good mission straight into the classroom at PS 246X.

After raising nearly $500K for NYC public school students through the Stand with Students initiative, the crypto community rolled up their sleeves for a day of service.

Volunteers painted hallways and bathrooms, built a Buddy Bench for the playground, and even constructed an indoor playground so students have somewhere to play on rainy days. 🌧️

And through a Math and Movement program, students had a day of play that got their brains AND bodies moving! 🧮🏃🏽‍♀️

Huge thanks to everyone who made this day possible. 🚀

Good Neighbor Day America is a wrap. 🧡

On Saturday, New Yorkers showed up the way New Yorkers do, with sleeves rolled, hearts open, and a willingness to spend a beautiful spring day making this city better for someone else.

Across the five boroughs, volunteers planted, painted, sorted, served, and showed up for neighbors they may never meet but whose lives are better because of the hours generously given on May 16.

That’s what a good neighbor looks like, and we’re proud to be part of the fabric of this neighborhood.

To every volunteer, project leader, partner organization, and supporter who made Good Neighbor Day America possible: thank you. You are the reason New York Cares can do what we do.

Special thanks to Together We Can and PS19Q for making our flagship Cares Village possible!

Oh, what a night! 🪩 At last night’s New York Cares Soirée, 405 attendees joined us at City Vineyard to raise a record-breaking total of $392,000 to support our programs!

Special thanks to our Rising Leaders Council, whose energy and commitment make this event possible year after year, and especially to this year’s Honoree Ally Walstad, who raised over $75,000 and has been a tireless advocate for New York Cares.

And thanks to host Nev Schulman for reminding us that real love and generosity exists right here in our community. (Not everyone’s a Catfish, folks! 😉)

To every volunteer, donor, partner, and friend who joined us: thank you for an unforgettable evening and for showing up for New York the way you always do.
Here’s to the impact ahead.

We're thrilled to welcome Boll & Branch as a Cares Village partner for Good Neighbor Day America on May 16! 🛏️

Boll & Branch is donating sleepers to be distributed alongside Summer Adventure Backpacks, Toiletry Kits, and food supplies at PS 19 Q in Queens.

"At Boll & Branch, we've always believed that everyone deserves a comfortable and safe space to sleep," said Boll & Branch founder and chief product officer Missy Tannen. "Partnering with New York Cares gives us the opportunity to extend that belief beyond our customers and into our community, bringing dignified comfort to New Yorkers who need it most.”

A good night’s sleep is foundational to a New Yorker’s day, their focus, their well-being, and their summer. We're grateful to have a partner who understands that comfort and dignity belong in every neighborhood.

Join us and volunteer at our Cares Village at PS 19 Q on May 16. Sign-up link in comments below.
