🗓️National 811 Day is August 11!
Before you dig—call 8-1-1 or 1-800-DIG-RITE for FREE to get underground utilities marked.

Whether you're planting a tree, installing a fence, or starting a major construction project, it’s the law in Missouri to contact Missouri 811 at least two business days before digging. Utility crews will come out and mark the location of underground lines with paint or flags, helping you avoid costly and dangerous damage.

☀️ Missouri summers can be brutal — and dangerous. Extreme heat and humidity can take a serious toll on your health, especially for children, seniors, and those with medical conditions.

Many vulnerable individuals go without air conditioning due to high utility costs, increasing the risk of heat-related illness or even death.

🚨 If you know a senior or adult with disabilities suffering from the heat, don’t wait — call Missouri’s Abuse & Neglect Hotline at 1-800-392-0210. It’s available 7 a.m. to midnight, 7 days a week.

✅ Stay safe this summer:
• Monitor the weather forecast
• Limit outdoor activities in peak heat
• Check on loved ones
• Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke

💧 Let’s look out for each other. Missouri heat is serious — be informed, stay cool, and help others do the same.

🔥 Choosing the Right Natural Gas Water Heater? Know the Difference! 🔥

When it comes to natural gas water heaters, how your unit ignites matters more than you think — both for safety and energy efficiency.

💡 Standing Pilot Light:
Older systems rely on a small flame that stays lit 24/7 to ignite your water heater. While reliable, it constantly uses gas, even when not heating — costing you more in the long run.

⚡ Self-Ignition Systems (Electronic Ignition):
Modern water heaters use smart ignition tech that only lights when needed:

🔁 Intermittent Pilot Ignition (IPI): Uses a spark or mini flame only when heating begins.

🔥 Hot Surface Ignition (HSI): Uses a glowing element to ignite gas efficiently.

✅ Why Upgrade?
✔️ More energy efficient
✔️ Safer
✔️ Reduces gas usage

Thinking about an upgrade? A self-igniting natural gas water heater might be worth it!

🚨 Natural Gas Safety: What You Need to Know 🔥🏠

Your safety is our priority. If you use natural gas in your home or business, it's critical to follow these essential safety tips:

✅ Recognize a Leak: Natural gas has a distinct sulfur or "rotten egg" smell. If you suspect a leak, leave immediately and call your gas utility or 911.

🚫 No Flames: Never use matches, lighters, or candles near gas appliances or if a leak is suspected.

💨 Ventilation Matters: Gas appliances like stoves and heaters need proper airflow. Poor ventilation can lead to dangerous carbon monoxide buildup.

🔧 Keep Vents Clear: Ensure all appliance vents are free from debris or blockages.

🔔 Install CO Detectors: Carbon monoxide is deadly and odorless. Install detectors, especially near bedrooms.

🛠 Maintain Appliances: Schedule regular maintenance and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for all gas-powered devices.

🌬 Outdoor Safety Counts Too: For grills and outdoor equipment, make sure connections are tight and areas are well-ventilated.

🧰 Call the Pros: If you're unsure, get a qualified technician to inspect your system.

Homeowner Safe Digging Guide.

🌳 Planning a landscaping or tree planting project? Don’t forget to call 811 before you dig! Whether it’s a big job or a small garden upgrade, it’s crucial to have underground utility lines marked first.

🚨 Every 6 minutes, a utility line is damaged because someone didn’t call 811. Damaging these lines can lead to injuries, service outages, and expensive repairs.

✅ Call at least 3 days in advance, even if you're hiring a contractor — and remember, private lines won’t be marked by 811.

What is the Recommended Water Heater Temperature in the summer months?

Did you know 42% of the population leaves their water heater set too high? Most water heaters will come pre-programmed to rest at 120 degrees Fahrenheit, and many homeowners will not give this temperature a second thought. They leave this temperature set as they install the heater and carry on using it to heat water for their showers, dishwashers and washing machines. The problem is that while this is a decent catch-all temperature setting, it’s also more heat than you need during the summer. As a result, this temperature leads to wasted energy.

Natural gas meter summer safety tips.

Your natural gas operators have a few natural gas meter safety tips to assist in ensuring your meter operates correctly and safely all year long.

Natural Gas operators must have easy access to your meter to conduct regular maintenance and safety inspections and respond to an emergency. Maintain a clear path to your meter, and don’t let fences, decks, or walls obstruct the meter.

Trim weeds, tall grass, and other vegetation near your meter, natural gas exhaust, and air intakes, to reduce the chance of CO accumulation in your house.

Handle your lawnmower with caution around your gas meter. A gas leak could result from hitting or pushing your natural gas meter.
