Jewish Book Council

Jewish Book Council Jewish Book Council promotes the reading, writing and publishing of quality Jewish content books.

See more of what we do on our website, www.jewishbookcouncil.org On January 1, 1994, convinced that the Jewish Book Council remained essential to the "people of the book," the Council’s Executive Board voted to create an independent entity. This new organization is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation chartered in the State of New York. It is supported, in large part, by dedicated and interested

individuals and foundations in the Jewish community. The Jewish Book Council is the only organization in the organized American Jewish community whose sole purpose is the promotion of Jewish books.

Gabrielle Sher’s debut novel is a dark, mesmerizing tale of a Jewish family struggling to survive in 1905 Odessa. When the Jewish quarter is once again thrown into violence, each family member is thrust down a dangerous path filled with desperation, magic, and monsters. JBC spoke with Sher about the family dynamics at play, Jewish storytelling as a means of survival, and the question of monstrosity. https://bit.ly/4tbrfZ8 (Little, Brown and Company)

On the festival of it is customary to read the Book of Ruth. In light of this, we're reading Francine Klagsbrun's essay on "Women's Friendship: From Ruth and Naomi to Henrietta Szold." Klagsbrun writes: "Women's friendships, whether in ancient literature or modern times, can be life-sustaining—even in the most challenging circumstances." Read more from the essay below. https://bit.ly/3yV4vGr (Jewish Lives)

We read little about friendships among women in our biblical texts.

"My return to Jewish learning and prayer is no small thing, considering how I felt and my experiences growing up. Now I actively seek out books on prayer and liturgy, Jewish thought, and feminist theology."

This writer reflects on the prayer books that helped her reconnect to Jewish rituals, the perfect read on ! Check out the full piece below. https://bit.ly/4jpJcy2"
