Chicago Cubs pitcher Matt Boyd is a finalist for the 2026 Philanthropist of the Year award!

As the April Most Valuable Philanthropist (MVP), Matt was recognized for his work with Kingdom Home, a non-profit organization he founded with his wife dedicated to ending child exploitation in Uganda. His MVP grant went towards supporting family-style prevention homes that work to protect and provide children with a loving and safe home to grow in.

Each year, Players vote in the Players Choice Awards to recognize their peers for their hard work on and off the field. As part of the nominations, Players elect the Philanthropist of the Year, which celebrates one of the season’s Most Valuable Philanthropists and honors their work with a $25,000 grant. Congratulations to Matt on being a finalist for the 2026 Philanthropist of the Year!

The Philanthropist of the Year Award goes to the player who “best demonstrates an altruistic spirit and positive social impact beyond the diamond.” The Philanthropist of the Year will also receive a $25,000 grant from the Players Trust to the charity or cause of his choice. Established in 1996, the Major League Baseball Players Trust is the charitable arm of the MLBPA. The winner of the Philanthropist of the Year Award will be announced the week of October 26.

Players Trust Ambassadors are recognized for their work on and off the field with a grant in their honor to a nonprofit of their choice. Hayden Seig directed his ambassador grant to Anderson Monarchs Baseball.

Since 1995, Anderson Monarchs Baseball has been providing underserved youth in Philadelphia with sports-based programming to help develop their players as students, athletes, and community leaders. Anderson Monarchs Baseball supports their young participants for life, helping them beat the odds of graduating high school and attending university, using sports as a pathway to success. On behalf of Hayden, the ambassador grant will help provide scholarship assistance to youth involved in Anderson Monarchs Baseball college prep programs.

Not only is Hayden helping young children in Philadelphia play the sport they love, but he’s also helping them build a bright future around it.

The Players Trust is continuing to highlight the Players who are maximizing their philanthropic impact with the Double Play Matching Gift. Today we are spotlighting Jo Adell.

Cleveland Guardians right fielder Jo Adell directed his matching gift to Carolina Elite Baseball. The organization is committed to expanding access for young and underserved athletes to education, personal growth, and career building opportunities through baseball. Jo Adell shared that, "Travel baseball and the opportunity for kids to play and compete is always something I'm pushing [for]," and by doubling his supporting for Carolina Elite Baseball, more youth baseball players are provided access to high-quality development, competitive opportunities, and exposure to college and professional baseball.

The Players Trust Double Play Matching Gift Program allows Players to maximize their impact on the communities and teammates they care about! Active Major League, Minor League, and former Major League Players are eligible to participate in this initiative.

Players Trust Ambassadors are recognized for their work on and off the field with a $10,000 grant in their honor to a nonprofit of their choice. Michael King directed his ambassador grant to the King of the Hill Foundation.

Founded by Michael and his wife, Sheila, in 2024, the King of the Hill Foundation is dedicated to delaying and preventing the onset of type 1 diabetes (T1D) and other autoimmune diseases. Through screenings, education, and community outreach, the foundation helps individuals and families better understand their risk and navigate life with T1D. The ambassador grant will support efforts to expand access to screening opportunities, educational resources, and critical support for those living with or at risk for developing type 1 diabetes.

Inspired by Sheila’s experience living with T1D, Michael and Sheila created the foundation to help others access the information and resources she wished she had before her diagnosis. Together, they continue to use their platform to raise awareness and make a difference for the T1D community.

The Double Play Matching Gift spotlight highlights the Players maximizing their philanthropic impact through the Players Trust matching gift program. Today we feature Kutter Crawford.

Boston Red Sox pitcher Kutter Crawford directed his matching gift to the Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation. The Double Play Matching Gift program allows Kutter’s impact on the university to go twice as far. His donation expands opportunities for current students and the FGCU community he benefitted from as an alumnus of the university.

“It’s an honor to be in a position to give back to a program that played such an important role in getting me to where I am today. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support the next generation of athletes," stated Kutter.

Players Trust Ambassadors are recognized for their work on and off the field with a $10,000 grant in their honor to a nonprofit of their choice. Jesús Luzardo directed his ambassador grant to Global Empowerment Mission (GEM).

GEM was established in response to the 2010 Haiti Earthquake with the mission of delivering the most aid to the most people in the shortest time following natural disasters. Following the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, GEM was on the ground distributing humanitarian aid. The ambassador grant was used directly toward logistical costs, helping GEM send aid-packed cargo planes from the US to Venezuela to serve thousands of people daily.

Born to Venezuelan parents, Jesús remains deeply connected to his heritage. His impact reaches beyond the clubhouse and inspires individuals across borders.
