On this National Dog Day, the Players Trust is spotlighting Players using their platform to support dogs in need.

Ozzie Albies and his wife Andreia launched the Ozzie Albies Foundation to spread awareness of animal adoption and fund critical support to pets and their families. Through their efforts providing shelter and education, organizing community events, and offering foster and adoption programs, the foundation is dedicated to helping all dogs get the life they deserve.

We’re back with a Double Play Matching Gift spotlight, highlighting the Players maximizing their philanthropic impact through the Players Trust matching gift program.

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Andre Pallante leveraged his matching gift donation to give back to the UC Irvine, the college baseball program that helped shape him. UCI Baseball Alumni Golf provides the opportunity for Andre and other program alum to pay their gratitude forward. Funds raised from the tournament support team nutrition and meals throughout the year, providing resources student-athletes need to perform at the highest level.

When asked why Pallante chose UCI Baseball as his Matching Grant recipient, his answer was simple: “I did it because it helps the baseball team that helped me,” he said. Pallante also remarked on the “lifelong friends and memories” he received, and wanted to support the program to ensure other kids could receive those same benefits he did.

On Tuesday, the Players Trust, alongside San Diego Padres players Michael King, Jake Cronenworth, Freddy Fermin, Jason Adam, and Jase Bowen, New York Mets pitcher Jefry Yan, and MLBPA staff, packed more than 7,000 meals with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) at the New York City office. These meals will be sent to distribution partners around the world who feed the communities in need.

Thank you to FMSC, Big League Impact, the Players, and MLBPA staff and leadership for making the Players Trust first food packing event a huge success!

Yesterday, Michael King, Freddy Fermin, Jake Cronenworth, Jason Adam, Jase Bowen and Jefry Yan joined MLBPA staff to pack meals with Feed My Starving Children. Together, we packed more than 7,000 meals, which will be distributed to partners around the world who feed communities in need.

Tipping our caps to Big League Impact and the Players Trust, who made the first-ever food packing event in our NY headquarters a success!

Congratulations to Christian Yelich, who was named the Players Trust's Most Valuable Philanthropist for August!

Christian has been active in philanthropy throughout his career, with his annual Home Plate Charity Concert raising funds to support his community in the Milwaukee area. As part of this "MVP" honor, the Players Trust will award a $10,000 grant split between the Heartland Farm Sanctuary and Snooty Giggles Dog Rescue on Christian's behalf.

Washington Nationals pitcher and Players Trust ambassador, Trevor Williams, plays baseball to empower those living with spinal cord injuries.

Trevor’s perspective on baseball changed to becoming a way to give-back after his former teammate, Cory Hahn, experienced a career-ending spinal cord injury to his C-5 vertebrae. Through supporting his friend in recovery, Trevor was inspired to use his platform to support the approximate 305,000 people across the U.S. who also have spinal cord injuries. Together, Trevor and Cory founded Project 34, named after Cory’s jersey number, to ease the financial stress of acquiring the necessary medical assistance for recovery, and to help patients and their families focus on living fulfilling lives.

Every time he steps on to the field, Trevor raises awareness for those living with spinal cord injuries and plays for those who cannot – as a true Players Trust ambassador does.

One month after All-Star, we're still reflecting on the incredible experience we had hosting six remarkable students out of the thousands participating in Player-inspired programs around the world!

The Players Trust thanks the amazing All-Star Players who welcomed and connected with these students, including Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber and outfielder Brandon Marsh, Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker, and two of our Players Trust Ambassadors: Phillies pitcher Jesús Luzardo and Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll. Both on and off the field, they show what it means to care for others like an All-Star.

Red Sox Pitcher, Tanner Houck, stepped up as an older brother when his family adopted his younger sister. Now, he steps up to the pitch to raise awareness for many other children looking to be adopted.

Tanner and his Pitch for Adoption campaign debuted in the major leagues together in his rookie season with the Red Sox. For every strikeout Tanner pitched, $100 was donated to support children in need of deserving families. Tanner has since been able to strengthen his impact and partner with organizations, including The Home for Little Wanderers to visit group homes and welcome the children as his guests at games and unique on-field experiences at Fenway Park.

As an ambassador for the Players Trust, and an ambassador for adoption, thank you, Tanner, for using your platform to advocate for the importance of adoption and the care of foster children.

Last call to nominate a Player for the 2026 Most Valuable Philanthropist (MVP) award!

The Players Trust MVP program highlights Players making meaningful impacts in their communities and beyond. Presented six times throughout the season, each recipient receives a $10,000 grant to support a charity of their choice. The deadline to nominate a Player for the 2026 season is August 1st.
