New York City – Harlem Boys and Girls Club mourns the loss of our Harlem neighbor and friend, president of NAACP New York State Conference, Dr. Hazel N. Dukes. Dr. Dukes dedicated more than 70 years to fighting for justice and racial equality. A fierce advocate of voter protection, she prioritized civic engagement, especially for the youth. Dr. Dukes carved out a place in heart for the youngest members of society. She founded the Dr. Hazel N. Dukes Education Initiative, which is committed to helping children from birth, and K-12 access high-quality education. The NAACP Connect All Kids initiative promotes college and career readiness and integrative STEM programs, ensuring our youth receive vital skills and preparation to achieve success.

In addition to securing her legacy on the national stage, Dr. Dukes fiercely advocated for the community she called home – Harlem. Today, Harlem Boys and Girls Club adds its voice to the mass outpouring of condolences and will continue the aligned missions of Harlem Boys and Girls Club and Dr. Hazel N. Dukes to provide access and opportunities for youth to reach their full potential as responsible members of the community.

Connecting, inspiring, and growing together! The Boys & Girls Club of Harlem had an amazing time at the 2025 Nonprofit Board and Volunteer Showcase hosted by the Tamer Institute for Social Enterprise and Climate Change. This event was a fantastic opportunity to network with students and alumni, recruit passionate volunteers, and build meaningful connections within the nonprofit community. Grateful for the chance to share our mission and meet so many incredible changemakers! ”

We welcome you to join us for our annual Christmas Tree Lighting festivities this afternoon at the Clubhouse on West 145th Street. We will be serenaded by the BGCH children’s choir, enjoy arts and crafts, snacks, and more! We are so excited to keep the good vibes flowing at the Club this evening and we hope to see you there!
