Hour Children, Inc. "Love Makes the Difference" Hour Children, Inc. They generally have few job skills, little education and few, if any, financial resources.

is a multi-faceted family service organization that provides housing, permanent and transitional, and a wide array of supportive services that transform the lives of women and their families involved in the criminal justice system. Our organization name was chosen by our dear friend, Jean Roulet, because the children of incarcerated mothers lives are dictated by the "hour" of the mother's arrest, the "hour" of the visit and the "hour" of her return. Company Overview

Our goals are to ensure that the children in our care are healthy, socially well-adjusted and achieving academically, and that their mothers make a successful transition to independent living. We work closely with each mother, tracking her progress or addressing problems with obtaining a job, managing a household, and caring for her children. On a long-range basis, we keep track of program participants to ensure that they are still employed and housed, and have not returned to prison. Hour Children is unique because the delivery of services that we provide to women on both sides of the “wall” is unmatched. When women leave prison, as formerly incarcerated women, they face a mountain of challenges beyond their prison record and the associated social stigma of incarceration. Once released from prison they are able to get employment skills development through Hour Working Women Program. Strong families and meaningful connections matter, especially when a mother is separated from her children.

Yesterday, Hour Children’s Executive Director, Dr. Alethea Taylor, joined fellow leaders and advocates at the InUnity Alliance Conference in Saratoga Springs, NY, for a discussion on supporting individuals affected by the criminal legal system.

Dr. Taylor spoke about Hour Children’s work with incarcerated women and their families, including our doula services, maternal health support, and efforts to help mothers maintain meaningful connections with their children. She also emphasized the importance of ensuring that women have access to ongoing support as they return to their communities.

We are grateful for opportunities like these to share our work, learn from others, and strengthen partnerships that help women and families move forward.

Yesterday, our Executive Director, Dr. Alethea Taylor, spoke on the health justice panel at the State of NYC Women Conference, hosted by Women Creating Change.

The conversation centered on women who are pregnant while incarcerated or detained. Too many go without adequate prenatal and postpartum care, give birth in harmful conditions, and are separated from their newborns. The panel also discussed how community organizations are responding and which policy changes would make the biggest difference.

Hour Children has supported mothers and their children through incarceration and reentry for 40 years. Dr. Taylor brought that experience to the table alongside Lourdes A. Rivera of Pregnancy Justice, Dr. Ann-Gel Palermo of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and fellow panelists.

Thank you to Women Creating Change for hosting.

**Youth Voices for a Safer Future**

Young people deserve to have a voice in conversations that shape their communities and their futures.

We’re proud to share *So Many Reasons to Close Rikers*, a youth-led video series that highlights young people’s perspectives on the urgent need to close Rikers Island.

Hour Children was honored to partner on this important project and to amplify the powerful voices of our young people. Their stories, experiences, and perspectives remind us why this conversation matters.

More videos will be released in September. We encourage you to watch, share, and help amplify these important youth voices.
