My deep prayers and condolences to the Thurman family; staff and supporters of Tibet House US. Bob la has led many directly and indirectly to an incredible, contemporary understanding of how the Dharma is helpful in our lives, often in a humorous way. The Buddhas must have invited Bob la – he was a compassionate leader and very intent with his practice. For me, his presence online and his simple words always gave new light to the ancient teachings. I have no doubt that Grandpa Bob will be reborn again to come and nurture our wisdom mind.

Listening to Bob la's recording as I missed it Live. For me (and hopefully for you as well...) it is a precious 48 minutes where listening to our Buddhist Elder Robert A.F. Thurman becomes a meditation – a varied experience that somehow naturally combines the two realms of our conventional wisdom and a sense of the ultimate (and natural is important: it feeling in sync with a meditative posture,) for so many things from the external world puts the two in conflict and hence, our stress. Now, this is a good dose of wisdom!

The other thing one always gain from listening to an elder (no matter the tradition) is the anecdotes – sharing of their life stories. With the book WHY THE DALAI LAMA MATTERS :) I get to hear the real life encounters of a pioneering Western follower with the Dalai Lama, the one who advocates for a Compassion-led world.

Today is Saga Dawa Düchen, one of the most important days in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar, commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana of Buddha Shakyamuni. 🙏

Saga Dawa Düchen occurs on the full moon of Saga Dawa, the fourth and most auspicious month in the Tibetan calendar. Also known as the Month of Merits, Saga Dawa is a powerful time to practice Dharma, generosity, compassion, and virtue, as the results of our actions are believed to be greatly multiplied—especially on this full moon day.

May this great occasion inspire wisdom, kindness, and compassion! 💛
