Founded 20 years ago,Above & Beyond has played a major role in the transformation of Staten Island Youth. Growing up in the inner city and seeing the lack of parks,gyms,recreational activities and positive role models,its easy for kids to stray in negative directions.We believe that with the right training,mentoring and exposure we can develop the best talent so these youth can complete at a highe
r level and contribute to their local area high schools like Curtis H.S., Moore Catholic H.S., Port Richmond H.S., St Peters H.S ,New Dorp H.S., Farrell H.S. We also want to build up their confidence and let them know that the dream does not stop on the court but continues on through secondary education. During the season we train and take our kids across the Verrazano -Narrow Bridge to participate in prominent tournament.. We charge a registration fee, however man of our kids come from a single parent households and simply cannot afford it. It can be challenging to keep kids motivated when they see other teams though out the boroughs who have things like uniforms and equipment. However , with that said our kids have been survivors and continue to make us proud. Former Curtis guard Zaire Taylor and Above participate and graduate of Missouri University went on to play professional basketball over seas. Michael Newcombe also a guard of Curtis H.S.graduated Fisher college as all time leading scorer. Lawrence Borha earned a scholarship to Utah State University and is now playing over seas .Danny Jennings of Long Beach State University will graduate with the class of 2014.Isaiah Wilkerson former Curtis H.S. graduate became NJIT graduate player of the year and played in the NBAD league, Hasson Martin, Curtis H.S. graduate, attended Rhode Island University as one of the top freshman in the country.
