That’s a WRAP at Borderland Music + Arts Festival! We had a fantastic time talking to all the amazing music fans about renewable energy, electrifying our home appliances, getting off fossil fuels, resisting data centers, and creating healthier homes, safer communities and clean air & water!

Thanks to everyone who took action, charged up at the “Solar Lounge” or supported our little “clean energy corner” with Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter (NY) and the Clean Air Coalition of WNY! With support from Museum of the Earth at the Paleontological Research Institution and Third Act Upstate New York!

Last but not least, a BIG thank you to the Borderland music festival organizers for having us and supporting the cause!

Where will we be next? More music and renewable energy movement fun to come soon!

Sierra Club has been popping up some all-electric induction cooked popcorn at the Borderland music fest! We’re talking about the emissions from gas stoves (into your home! 🥺) and switching to cleaner & healthier cooking with induction. Heats up and cools down super fast. Last chance to enter the raffle for a portable induction cook-top! ⚡️👨🏻‍🍳🍳

“A heat pump heats your home in winter and cools it in summer. One appliance, two jobs, no gas line. It's at least twice as efficient as a furnace. And it just outsold gas furnaces by 32%.” 🌱⚡️

“The U.S. has generated more power from solar compared to coal for the first time, according to a report by Ember, a think tank focused on the clean energy transition. In May 2026, solar supplied 12.8% of U.S. electricity, while coal supplied 12.2%, according to an analysis of official monthly and preliminary hourly generation data.

A record 45.5 terawatt-hours (TWh) of solar energy was generated in May 2026, exceeding the output from May 2025 by 17%, the think tank found. The record could be broken again in the upcoming summer months, as solar output typically peaks in June and July.”

The amount of solar power generated in the U.S. is continuing to grow.

“Wind and solar energy generated a record 17% of electricity in the United States in 2025, according to new data from the Energy Information Administration. That is up from less than 1% in 2005.

Despite recent U.S. government policy shifts that have deemphasized renewable energy and eliminated many financial incentives, renewable electricity generation continues to grow globally, and global renewable energy capacity is expected to more than double by 2030, according to the International Energy Agency.”

"Unlike during previous oil shocks, renewable power is now competitive with fossil fuels in many places. More than 90% of new renewable power projects worldwide in 2024 were cheaper than fossil-fuel alternatives, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency.

Oil is used in many industries beyond generating electricity, such as fertilizer and plastics production. So most countries are feeling the impact, while those with more renewable power are more insulated since renewables rely on domestic resources like sun and wind, not imported fuels.

“These crises regularly occur,” said James Bowen of the Australia-based consultancy, ReMap Research. “They are a feature, not a bug, of a fossil fuel-based energy system.”

The Iran war is exposing how much the global economy still depends on fragile fossil fuel supplies. The conflict has virtually choked off the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane for a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas.
