Dolores Huerta is a trailblazing labor leader and civil rights activist who dedicated her life to advancing the rights of working people.

Huerta helped found the National Farm Workers Association to organize workers, negotiate better wages and build a movement rooted in collective action. Her leadership continues to inspire workers and organizers today.

DC 9 is proud to offer scholarship opportunities that support eligible members and their families as they pursue their educational goals.

Applications are currently open for:
• District Council 9 Scholarship Fund
• Local Union Scholarship Fund
• William Elfeld Scholarship Fund
• Local Union 1974 Scholarship Fund

Applications for these four scholarships must be postmarked by October 31, 2026.

Luisa Capetillo was a pioneering Puerto Rican labor organizer, writer, and advocate for workers’ and women’s rights.

Capetillo organized workers in Puerto Rico and across the United States, building solidarity among people from different trades and backgrounds. Her legacy reminds us that progress is made when working people stand together and demand dignity, fairness, and opportunity.

This week District Council 9 members attended a September 11th memorial event hosted by H.E.A.R.T. 9/11 and the NYC Building Trades honoring our brothers and sisters in DC 9 and the Building Trades as well as NYPD, FDNY, PAPD, emergency workers, and all workers who lost their lives that day and after due to 9/11 related illnesses and saluting all the Building Trades members who volunteered in the rescue and cleanup efforts and those who worked to rebuild after. Thank you to all our members who volunteered in rescue and cleanup efforts after the attacks. We're proud of you and all the hard work completed by our members who worked to rebuild the World Trade Center for years after. Thank you to all our members who attended this special event. We will never forget. God bless the United States of America.
