Below is a photo of Ruth (our principal teacher, center) and Jeny (our bilingual teacher, right) visiting the Girl’s Centre in Arusha. They are pictured with Estahappy who is Executive Director. We were connected to the US founder, Nano Chatfield, through a mutual friend. The Girls Centre is a secondary boarding school for girls —started 14 years ago with nine boarding students and now houses 128 students.
The Girls Foundation mission is to support girls whose families do not have enough money to pay for their education. All of the girl’s are on full scholarship. Some of the girls may not have parents, or they may have a single parent who cannot afford to support them. The director of the foundation visits different schools in the region to help find girls, and when she does, she selects those who are performing well in class, usually the top of their peers.
It is our hope that some girls from Felicia Children’s Center will be considered in the future. Lindsey Cook and Felicia Walker will make a visit to the school next month (May 2026) along with Ruth, Lotha and Jeny. We’re looking forward to sharing ideas and learning more about their experiences first hand. Here is their website to learn more about their work:

From what we have been told, it’s very important that girls go to boarding school once they reach the US equivalent of middle school. While our visit will mostly consist of spending time at FCC- we are carving out some time to network 😊 and meet more people in the community 🧡
