Protecting Transgender Youth in Family Law Disputes
Wednesday Sept. 30 • 2 PM ET • Zoom
Sliding-scale registration • NY CLE Open nationwide • Open to non-lawyers
Taught By Andy Izenson Esq.

This CLE course equips attorneys with the practical knowledge and issue-spotting skills needed to confidently represent families with transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming youth in family conflict.

In this CLE, you’ll learn:
•How to identify key issues affecting transgender youth in family law disputes
•How to provide legal support to trans youth in hostile environments
•What trans families need their attorneys to understand about their lived experiences
•How cultural competency can strengthen your advocacy and client relationships

When a client’s child is transgender, they want to know that the person advocating for their family doesn’t just understand the law, but understands their family. Having access to and support from culturally competent professionals makes a profound difference in a young person’s experience of turbulent times.

Our Senior Legal Director, Andy Izenson, Esq., brings years of experience in family law, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, and educating legal professionals on gender and sexuality.

Learn what families need you to understand, from professionals with years of experience advocating for their own communities.

🚨 New Yorkers! 30 Seconds – Community Call to Action!

We’re proud to be advisory board members of the ***rcoalition ! Along with our coalition members, including from the incredible , we are continuing our efforts to ensure that the LGBTQIA+ Immigrant Legal Services Fund is created and fully supported through the post–FY27 budget allocation process. The City Council is listening! Now is the time to get loud and get support for q***r immigrants!

We still have time to get the NYC Council to fund:
✨ $15M for LGBTQIA+ Immigrant Legal Services
✨ $10M for the Trans Equity Initiative

Please use this link to send a letter to New York City Council members and urge them to invest in this critical fund: https://bit.ly/LGBTQImmigrantFund (or check the link in our bio!)

It takes ONLY 30 SECONDS to send an email to the City Council and show our collective community power. It’s fast, easy, and makes a real difference!

These funds would go toward hiring more staff at trusted nonprofits to provide lawyers and support professionals to low-income trans people and q***r immigrants who need them. Only a tiny percentage of those who want and need legal and other transitional support have access to it. NYC needs to meet the demand to provide services to these communities so we can stay a welcoming beacon to q***r people nationwide and worldwide. ❤️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️❤️

What a celebration that was!
You may have spotted our Executive Director, Diana Adams, Esq, this weekend riding on the first float of the NYC Pride Parade! This is a tremendous honor reserved for leaders serving q***r community in NYC. As awardees of NYC Pride’s Pride Gives Back Grant, Chosen Family Law Center is so grateful to Heritage of Pride for their support and the experience of being part of this incredible event. Thank you NYC Pride for all you do to organize this parade, and your continued support of q***r-led organizations!!!

Diana, along with our Communications & Program Director, Ariel Wolf, were both featured on ABC news’ national coverage of the parade, and got a birds eye view of all the festivities. This years NYC Pride Parade brought in over 2 million spectators, making it the largest Pride celebration in North America.

Diana says “It was incredibly inspiring to look out from the float to a sea of q***r faces of every age and ethnicity, beaming, fist-pumping, moved and triumphant, even some looking weary and like they needed the boost. It filled my heart with determination to protect this beautiful, fierce, resilient community with all I’ve got.”

We’ll never stop fighting for your right to be yourself. 🏳️‍⚧️

Today’s SCOTUS ruling enables states to choose to ban trans student athletes. Keep in mind that nothing has changed about your protections in NY and many other states where trans people are still protected from discrimination.

We’ll be here to fight back against every attack on this community. We’re not giving up, and neither should you.

Last week our Executive Director Diana Adams, Esq was honored by the NYC Bar Association as a 2026 recipient of the Arthur S Leonard Award for their leadership in advancing LGBTQIA+ equality through the law.

We are so proud of Diana and all of their accomplishments, and honored to see them recognized by such an esteemed legal institution on behalf of the entire legal community of New York City. Just a decade or two ago, being awarded for uplifting the LGBTQIA+ community through legal advocacy may have been hard to imagine in the mainstream legal community, and we’re so grateful to see their work and Arthur S. Leonard’s legacy given the respect it deserves by the lawyers of New York

In Diana’s speech, they shared that this award was particularly special because the NYC Bar was a home to them as a law student and early in their career, instrumental to them starting their solo law firm in 2007. And in fact their first legal community event was the NYC Bar pride reception in 2002, when they were wowed by the history and beauty of the building. It was a beautiful full circle moment to be back as a celebrated leader in the legal community.

Diana’s work as Policy Co-Chair of the ***rCoalition continues to positively impact the lives of the LGBTQIA+ community in New York and beyond. The $15 million investment in gender-affirming care that has already been won, and the additional budgetary funds that the coalition is fighting for will not only meet some of the much needed deficits in care for marginalized folks, it serves as an example for what’s possible when we come together to stand up for one another. This group of over 80 q***r-led non-profits is a historic show of solidarity.

Diana’s leadership in municipal legislative drafting and advocacy has impacted the passage of family status nondiscrimination and multi-partner domestic partnership laws in NYC, Portland, West Hollywood, and beyond, this year alone. The framework for these laws are open source and serve as a national model, which is now being replicated across the country. We look forward to seeing how Diana’s leadership continues to inspire the legal world to be more fair, inclusive, and compassionate.

Congratulations Diana, and their co-awardees pictured here with Arthur S. Leonard, Danielle C. King and Charlie Arrowood!

NYC, use your voice! In less than one minute of your time, send this pre-written letter to all 21 NY City Council Members on the Budget Negotiation Team to make sure they keep q***r immigrants prioritized in the NYC budget.

All month we’ve been rallying to ask for $15 million to be allocated to fund LGBTQIA+ Immigrant Legal Services in NYC, which would fund hiring more attorneys placed at trusted organizations like ours to try to meet the urgent need for culturally competent legal support. This ask is led by our wonderful colleagues at Caribbean Equality Project as well as the NYC Trans and Q***r Coalition, a group of 80+ organizations serving at-risk LGBTQIA+ New Yorkers amplifying our power by speaking as one voice to NYC government, where CFLC is a proud advisory board member and our Executive Director Diana Adams, Esq is one of the Policy Co-Chairs.

Please share to spread the word about this letter action, so the City Council knows that the well-being of our q***r immigrant neighbors is a priority to NYC constituents.
