🔔 Bringing German universities into GISNY classrooms!  🚌

Interns from the German Universities Liaison Offices in New York visited the (GISNY) in White Plains! In breakout sessions, they shared insights on studying and living in Germany, discussed the diverse academic opportunities, and connected with students curious about pursuing their university education in Germany. For GISNY students it was particularly interesting to hear first hand from students studying at our universities.

We’re proud to see our interns engaging with the next generation of students and strengthening ties between Germany and the U.S. academic communities. 🌍🎓 Thank you GISNY for the warm welcome!

Our HAUS 17th National Meeting in Chicago was a blast! 🎉We enjoyed inspiring discussions, engaging activities, and great company throughout the weekend.

We kicked off the weekend with a welcome dinner at the legendary Berghoff Restaurant! At our Jahreshauptversammlung, members heard updates from the HAUS President and gained fresh insights from Heidelberg, including remarks by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Marc-Philippe Weller and early career researchers. A huge thank you to the Goethe-Institut Chicago and its director and staff for their warm hospitality!

The Chicago River Architecture Tour was a highlight—we admired the city’s stunning skyline from the water.

Our Evening Celebration at the David Rubenstein Forum featured a welcome drink sponsored by American Junior Year (AJY) at Heidelberg University, opening remarks by Deputy Consul General Dirk Schulz, and a fascinating talk by Prof. David Wilson, PhD (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign) on the dynamics of urban change and gentrification in Chicago.

A weekend full of connection and Heidelberg spirit—until next time!

Only 3 weeks to go until our 17th HAUS National Meeting in Chicago!

Spotlight: The Berghoff!

Start the HAUS 2025 weekend with tradition and a touch of old Chicago charm. On Friday, October 3, we’ll gather for our Welcome Dinner at the legendary Berghoff Restaurant—a 100% family-owned establishment that has been serving classic German-American cuisine since 1898. Fittingly for our context of international connection and German-American heritage, the Berghoff’s story began with transatlantic migration, when Herman Berghoff emigrated from Germany to the United States. From its early days as a brewery and café to its current home in the heart of downtown Chicago, the Berghoff is steeped in history. Today, it stands as one of the city’s oldest restaurants and as a symbol of German heritage in the United States. As such, it offers the perfect backdrop for the opening night of what promises to be an eventful weekend in Chicago.

This will be your first opportunity to meet fellow alumni, reconnect with familiar faces, and enjoy great food in a historic setting that beautifully reflects our shared Heidelberg ties.

🥨 Enjoy exquisite German cuisine and stories from across the Atlantic.

“Trusted partnerships build resilience!” The Future Forum, hosted by the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH) New York at the of MIT and Harvard in Cambridge, MA, brought together founders, researchers, VC managers, policymakers, and innovators to foster lasting networks at the intersection of science, technology, and international collaboration.

What made this gathering truly special was the unique mix of great minds from both Germany and the U.S.—all united by a shared commitment to advancing research and driving tech transfer across borders.

A special highlight was the strong participation of Heidelberg University alumni - Boston is a hub of Heidelberg alumni!
Great to connect with our HAUS Boston Chapter Chair Stella and many more!
