Informal drop-in sessions to get questions answered and seek technical assistance to create any part of your grant application.

You’re invited to one or more Manhattan Arts Grant Applicant Lab sessions taking place throughout the borough. If you have questions about the application process or need assistance to complete it, feel welcome to come and connect with LMCC’s Artistic Programs team whenever your schedule allows during the session.

If you can’t make this specific time and location, other lab sessions are available.

The 2027 application guidelines and application forms for LMCC’s annual grant programs are now available. LMCC invites Manhattan-based individual artists, collectives, and non-profit organizations working across all artistic disciplines, backgrounds and neighborhoods to apply for project support to bring their 2027 projects to life.

Mark your calendars! “Mantilla: Fashion Unveiled” opens to the public Friday, November 20th.

Bringing together international loans with works from the Hispanic Society’s collection, “Mantilla: Fashion Unveiled” will explore the history and significance of the mantilla in Spanish culture. A lace veil traditionally worn with a comb called a peineta, the mantilla is the most distinctive garment in Spanish women’s fashion with origins dating to the 16th century. Featuring paintings, textiles, photographs, books, and works of contemporary fashion, the exhibition traces the remarkable evolution of the mantilla from a symbol of tradition and femininity into a powerful expression of identity and artistic innovation.

“Mantilla: Fashion Unveiled” is the second installment in the Hispanic Society’s multi-year fashion initiative, following last fall’s exhibition “Spanish Style: Fashion Illuminated, 1550–1700.” Stay tuned for more information about events and programs related to this exhibition.

📢Harlem Tomorrow: Reflections in Black: A History of Black Photographers📢

SoHarlem is proud to present Reflections in Black: A History of Black Photographers: 1840 to the Present, 2026 American Book Winner Deborah Willis in Conversation with Adama Delphine Fawundu.

Deborah Willis, Ph.D., is a University Professor and Chair of the Dept of Photography & Imaging at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where she also directs the Center for Black Visual Culture. Willis is a 2026 American Book Award winner, a MacArthur, Guggenheim, and Cohen Fellow, acclaimed artist, and one of the nation’s foremost historians of Black photography and visual culture. Her widely celebrated publications include Posing Beauty and the NAACP Image Award–winning Envisioning Emancipation. She sits on the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and serves as Board Chair of the Andy Warhol Foundation.

Adama Delphine Fawundu is a first generation visual artist born in Brooklyn, NY with heritage from Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea, West Africa. Professor Fawundu is a co-author/editor of the critically acclaimed book MFON: Women Photographers of the African Diaspora. This book features over 100 women photographers of African descent from around the globe. Fawundu was featured in the critically acclaimed Netflix documentary film, In Our Mother’s Garden directed by Shantrelle P. Lewis. Her awards include the Guggenheim Fellowship, Catchlight Fellowship, Rema Hort Mann Artist Grant as well as the New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship amongst other awards. She received her MFA from Columbia University. Her works can be found in the the collections at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Newark Museum of Art, Princeton University Museum, Bryn Mawr College, The Brooklyn Historical Society, The Norton Museum of Art, The David C. Driskell Center (University of Maryland), The Petrucci Family Foundation as well as private collections.

The HOPE Center Harlem is partner with The Gatekeepers Collective for Reclaiming Our Birthright, a six-session resiliency enhancement workshop series created for same-gender-loving and q***r African-descended men.

Led by Dr. Jonathan Lassiter, Dr. John-Martin Green, and Chad Franklin, this series offers a supportive space to strengthen mental wellness, build community, develop practical skills, and reconnect with the power, identity, and resilience that are already within us.

The series meets Mondays beginning October 5, 2026 at 6 PM in Harlem.
