NATION TIME: A BENEFIT FOR GARY, INDIANA
WITH LOVE FROM HARLEM

William Greaves, 80 min.

In 1972, thousands of Black people from across the country gathered in Gary, Indiana, for the National Black Political Convention, an extraordinary attempt to imagine Black political power on a national scale.

William Greaves was there with his camera.

This Saturday night, we screen his landmark documentary NATION TIME in solidarity with Gary as the city recovers from a devastating storm and prolonged power outages.

100% of ticket proceeds will support relief efforts in Gary.

More than fifty years ago, people came to Gary to gather, organize, debate and dream.

This weekend, we gather in Harlem to send some love back.

Moments. Places. People. Stories we don’t want to forget.

Where is Mother Hale’s statue today?

At 152 West 122nd Street in Harlem, the historic Hale House stands as a reminder of Clara “Mother” Hale, who opened her home and her heart to children in need. Her compassion grew into Hale House, which became nationally recognized for caring for children and supporting families during some of Harlem’s most challenging years.

A bronze statue of Mother Hale with a child, created by renowned sculptor Robert Berks, once stood in front of the brownstone as a tribute to her remarkable legacy.

But what happened to the statue?

The Hale House building was sold in 2024, and the statue was subsequently removed. Today, we are trying to determine where the original bronze statue is located.

We’re asking the Harlem community, former Hale House staff and families, historians, preservationists, artists, and anyone familiar with Mother Hale’s story:

Do you know where the statue is today?

If you have information, photographs, records, or personal memories that could help us locate or document the statue, please comment below or send us a DM.

Help us preserve and reconnect an important piece of Harlem’s history and Mother Hale’s legacy.

The Boys & Girls Club of Harlem

We hosted our 3rd Annual Teen Summit in July, bringing together nearly 200 young New Yorkers ages 14–18 for an engaging day of conversation, education, and empowerment focused on curating your story and brand on Social Media.

Through expert-led panels, interactive workshops, and youth-centered discussions, teens explored:

📱 Mental health & digital well-being
🛡️ Cyberbullying & technology abuse
🎤 Positive expression, advocacy & using social media for good

The summit provided young people with greater awareness, practical strategies, and the confidence to navigate the digital world thoughtfully—and to recognize the power of their voices to create positive change.

A special thank you to the incredible speakers, facilitators, and community leaders who shared their knowledge and experiences with our young people:
