Yesterday marked a milestone. 🐝 The first cohort of Bee Cause Apprentices—dedicated high school students and teachers from across the city—walked through the gates of the Environmental Study Center, pulled on their bee suits for the first time, and stepped up to the hives.
For many, it was the first time they had ever been face-to-face with a living honeybee colony. There were nervous smiles, careful steps, and a collective awe as our lead beekeeper opened the first hive and showed them the quiet hum of thousands of workers going about their spring build-up.
These students will spend the next year not just learning about bees but becoming beekeepers. They will conduct hive inspections, track colony health, harvest honey, and share their knowledge with the community. They will gain skills in environmental science, leadership, and public education—skills that open doors to green careers and a lifetime of stewardship.
Stay tuned for more updates as our apprentices grow with the season.
