Figure Skating in Harlem Figure Skating in Harlem's (FSH) mission is to transform young lives and help Harlem girls grow in confidence, leadership, and academic development!

For over 25 years, Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH) has impacted the lives of thousands of girls of color, positioning them to be the leaders of our generation through the power of education and access to the sport of figure skating. Our programs promote sisterhood, health and serve as a strong foundation for girls to become Champions in Life. Our Mission:
To help girls transform their lives and gro

w in confidence, leadership and academic achievement. Our Vision:

Ahead of International Literacy Day, we’re celebrating the power of our students to tell their own stories—in their own words. 📖✏️⛸️

Althea’s story begins with fear. She didn’t know how to skate, worried that she would fall, and was so nervous that she cried—and almost barfed! But she stepped onto the ice, fell, got back up, and continued practicing until she could spin, jump, and become a competition winner.

At Figure Skating in Harlem, literacy is about more than reading and writing. It gives girls the tools to express themselves, reflect on their growth, develop their voices, and share their experiences with confidence.

Just like skating, finding your voice takes courage and practice—and every girl deserves the opportunity to begin.

Applications for our 2026–27 I Can Excel program are still open for girls in grades K–10. No skating experience is required, and low-cost, sliding-scale tuition is available.

Spots are limited! Apply through the link in our bio.

Taking a moment to celebrate a true champion in life, Gloria Steinem, a visionary writer., activist, feminist icon, and longtime champion for women, girls, equality, and justice.

After learning about our girls and mission at a conference, she immediately recognized the power and possibility of our work. She connected FSH with her friend Stacey Tisdale, a financial journalist and former competitive figure skater, helping to spark our first financial literacy program. Two years later, we celebrated Gloria as one of our 2015, Skating with the Stars honorees!

“FSH puts wings on their feet, which become wings on their hearts and wings on their minds—and you let them fly.”

We are profoundly grateful for Gloria’s belief in our girls, her beautiful connection to the FSH community, and her lifetime of courageous leadership. Her legacy will continue in every girl who learns to find her voice, recognize her power, and use both to help create a more equal world.

Thank you, Gloria, for helping our girls fly. Our hearts are with her loved ones and the countless people inspired by her life and work.

Senior Spotlight✨

Over the past 12 years, Danielle has grown from a young skater into a leader, mentor, and advocate. Through every challenge, performance, competition, and opportunity, Figure Skating in Harlem helped her discover that leadership isn't defined by a single achievement—it's built through resilience, service, and using your voice to uplift others.

Whether she was encouraging younger skaters, representing FSH at Lobby Day in Albany, or reflecting on the lessons she's learned, Danielle has embraced every opportunity to lead with confidence and compassion.

"Meeting with elected officials in Albany showed me that young people don't have to wait to make a difference. Our voices deserve to be heard now."*

This fall, Danielle will attend Quinnipiac University where she'll study Biology on her path toward a career in pharmacology. We know she'll continue making an impact—in the classroom, in her community, and wherever her journey takes her.

Congratulations, Danielle! Thank you for 12 incredible years of leadership, perseverance, and heart. We can't wait to see what's next. 💙⛸️

Over the past year, Adrianna has experienced tremendous personal growth. She embraced every opportunity, grew as a teammate and leader, and discovered that success isn't measured by a single moment on the ice. It's measured by the confidence, resilience, and joy you gain along the way.

As she reflected on her final season, she realized something bigger than any performance:

Getting back up looks different for everyone, but the most important thing is that you always come back to yourself.

Although Adrianna achieved one of her longtime goals this year by earning a senior solo, what meant the most to her was being able to skate alongside the teammates, coaches, and community who had become her second family.

This fall, Adrianna is heading to Pace University to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse practitioner, carrying with her the resilience, compassion, and confidence she built at Figure Skating in Harlem.

Congratulations, Adrianna! We are so proud of the young woman you've become and can't wait to see the lives you'll impact.

🎥 Want to see more of Adrianna's journey? Check her out in our Emmy-nominated *Harlem Ice* docuseries, now streaming on Disney+.

More Than Skating

Five weeks of Summer Dreams.⁣

We skated.⁣
We coded. ⁣
We created. ⁣
We explored NYC. ⁣
We became scientists. ⁣
We built businesses. ⁣
We learned about our bodies. ⁣
We tried new things.⁣
We made new memories.⁣
And most importantly—we did it together.⁣

From STEM and environmental science to entrepreneurship, art, AI, cybersecurity, cultural exploration, GOFIT, and of course, Figure Skating, Summer Dreams allowed our students to discover new interests and see themselves in new possibilities.⁣

And none of it happens alone. 💗⁣

Thank you to the incredible community partners, educators, funders, and institutions who helped turn NYC into our classroom this summer:⁣

HCC, Inc. • • • • • • • Martha Graham Dance Company • • • ⁣

We are also deeply grateful to the public and private funders whose support helps make Summer Dreams and our year-round programming possible, including the NYC DYCD, METLIFE foundation, AG Foundation, STARS CGI , New York City Council, The New York State Senate , and The NYS Assembly Majority —with special thanks to Council Member CM Yusef Salaam District 9 , State Senator Senator Cordell Cleare , Assembly Member Al Taylor, and Assembly Member Jordan J.G. Wright for investing in opportunities for young people in our community.⁣

Another Summer Dreams in the books. 💕✨⁣
