Young people face a tougher path from education to decent work, according to the latest International Labour Organization Global Employment Trends for Youth report.

Youth unemployment is rising across income groups, while 2 in 3 young people not in education, employment or training are women.

The findings reinforce the need for greater investment in decent work, skills and economic opportunities that enable all young people to build secure and sustainable futures.

The report examines recent developments in youth labour markets worldwide and provides the latest global and regional analysis of youth employment trends and prospects.

On 19 August, we mark — honouring humanitarian workers and standing with people affected by crises around the world.

Humanitarian workers should never be targets. Yet they continue to be killed, injured, abducted, detained and obstructed while delivering life-saving assistance — with national staff bearing much of the risk. Under international humanitarian law, humanitarian and medical personnel must be respected and protected, and people in need must be able to access relief.

Attacks on aid workers don’t just endanger individuals; they disrupt food, health care and protection for entire communities. This World Humanitarian Day, we call for greater protection for humanitarian workers and safe, unhindered access to people in crisis.

At , children’s rights must be part of the conversation on land, climate resilience and sustainable food systems.

In line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and General Comment No. 26, ChildFund Alliance is calling for children and young people to be recognised not only as those affected by land degradation and climate change, but as rights holders and agents of change.

Our call to action sets out what governments and other stakeholders can do to put children’s rights at the heart of decisions at COP17 and beyond. Read our recommendations and join us in calling for action: https://childfundalliance.org/blog/directory_documents/childrens-rights-at-unccd-cop17/

🌏 What does El Niño mean for children and families across the Pacific?

El Niño is a natural climate pattern, but its impacts can be far-reaching — shifting rainfall, increasing drought risk, affecting food production and putting pressure on already vulnerable water supplies. For children, this can mean much more than changing weather. It can lead to less safe drinking water, disrupted schooling, higher food prices and increased health risks.

Our member ChildFund New Zealand highlights what changing climate conditions can mean for Pacific communities — and why investing in climate resilience and preparedness is so important.

Learn about El Niño, a major climate pattern that increases drought risk, affects food, changes cyclone patterns.

The World Food Programme estimates that 14 million people in Afghanistan are facing acute hunger. Children are among the most vulnerable. Malnutrition has reached record levels in 12 provinces, with children under two particularly affected.

ChildFund Alliance member WeWorld has been working in Afghanistan since 2002. A key part of its response is food assistance delivered through cash-for-food programmes, prioritising female-headed households, which experience especially high levels of poverty.

Funding shortfalls, the return of Afghans expelled from neighbouring countries and the country’s fragile economy are all intensifying the crisis. Urgent and sustained international support is needed to ensure children and families can access the food and assistance they need.

Afghanistan’s dire hunger crisis now affects 14 million people including babies fed on little more than weak tea and bread by their despairing and dirt-poor parents.

What will it take to accelerate progress towards Land Degradation Neutrality by 2030?

At COP17, we’re delighted to have Faith Katumbi, Joshua Laizer, Odgiiv Odsuren, Afnan Pasha and Jekulin Lipi Saikia helping lead The Land Jury — a youth-facilitated conversation bringing together government, UN, civil society and community voices.

Moving beyond traditional presentations, the session will create space for honest dialogue, shared accountability and practical solutions, culminating in youth-led recommendations for accelerating action towards 2030.

Different contexts, common aspirations. This is the theme for , recognising that while young people around the world face different realities, their hopes for the future are often remarkably similar.

The world is home to nearly 1.3 billion young people aged 15 to 24 — the largest generation of youth to date. Today, we celebrate the important contributions children and young people make to their families, communities and the wider world. By listening to their ideas and supporting their energy, creativity and determination, we can work together to build a more equitable future for all.

Around 3.9 million people remain internally displaced in Ukraine. One in five is a child.

A new report from IOM - UN Migration highlights the prolonged impact of the war. Most displaced people have now been away from their homes for more than two years, while displacement continues. ChildFund Alliance members ChildFund Deutschland, Educo and WeWorld are working with local partners in Ukraine to support children and families affected by this protracted crisis. Their work is helping children access education, protection, psychosocial support and safe spaces — providing greater stability amid ongoing uncertainty.

The findings underline why emergency assistance alone is not enough. Displaced children and families also need sustained support with housing, livelihoods, healthcare, protection and other essential services.
